Hello Parents and Carers, Thank you to all those who attended the Leaders Assembly on Friday. It is very important to our students that their efforts are celebrated by our community and it was inspiring to hear our student’s goals for the year. Please encourage your child/ ren to have a goal for each term whether it is academic or behavioural. Congratulations to those in the Leadership group who welcomed all the Network Principals and the Regional Education Director to our school – they were very impressed with your manners and support. The School Board is meeting this evening and will be discussing the school business plan for the next three years. If you have some ideas about what you would like to see the school involved in please contact your school board members as they are your representatives. A very big thank you to one of our parents, Jason Eastwood who has put a huge amount of work into organising our Paper Plane event for next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please come along and see our students make and compete in the Great Paper Plane flying competition at John Higgins Centre at 1.00pm on Wednesday 16 March. A big thank you to the Shire and Town of Narrogin for their generous support of our Paper Planes event. Good luck to all those students participating in the Faction Swimming Carnival tomorrow. Remember what one of our Leadership group had as a goal – ―My goal is to show students that you don’t always have to win and to model good sportsmanship.‖ The school has received a Certificate of Appreciation from CY O’Connor TAFE for our positive partnership work with them. I encourage anyone who has some time to volunteer at our Canteen or join the P&C. Have an enjoyable week. Year 6 leadership All of the Year 6 students are looking forward to being role models and leaders in our school this year. The leaders have many exciting leadership opportunities and we are very excited to be in the East Narrogin Leadership Team for 2016. They have already established a variety of different leadership tasks such as: Peer Support, Sport activities and Breakfast Club.

The leaders will be meeting with Mrs Hayes, Mrs Jones and Mrs Burbridge regularly to learn and practise skills such as public speaking, working with younger students in the playground and ways to be a good role model.

The leadership group are looking forward to attending Australia’s Premier Student Leadership Conference next week at the Perth Convention Centre in Perth.

This conference will allow the year 6 leadership group:

To network with other young leaders in WA and share our ideas and thoughts on how we can be effective leaders in our school.

To understand how a student leader can be proactive every day and stand up for others.

To understand the importance of generosity. To look for opportunities to lead To develop a simple leadership plan so that we can

make a genuine and lasting contribution to the school.

The Year 6 Leaders are ready and excited about being good leaders at East Narrogin Primary School and will wear their badges with pride.

From Behaviour & Participation

Cycle to School Day Last Friday we had 40 students ride to school and have their bikes checked for safety by our local police. The police highlighted their concern during the assembly about the number of children in Narrogin riding bikes without helmets.

Chelsea Bradford, Room 7, Year 4 wrote:

―Students need to cycle to school more often.

I strongly believe that more students should cycle to school. Cycling to school keeps you fit and healthy, it's free, less pollution and a fun thing to do with family and friends. Why sit in the car bored when you could be riding with your friends laughing?

First of all, cycling is much better for the environment. Cars have been polluting the Earth for years. However cycling keeps the air nice and clean. Would you like to breathe clean air or polluted air?

Secondly, exercise keeps you fit and healthy, while cars make you unfit and lazy. If you are fit and healthy your heart is beating fast, your body is more alive and your brain more active. If you are fit and healthy you can concentrate better on your education.

Last of all, cycling to school is more fun than sitting in a boring old car, because you can ride with as many people as you want. It also gives you something to do and you get to see more of the environment.

In conclusion, I strongly believe students should cycle to school more often, because it is better for the environment, it is fun and keeps us healthy.‖
