From the Principal Welcome back to Term 3, with the beginning of a new term comes new students and new families, we welcome all to the PSPC family. Our first week back saw us celebrate 100 days of Prep as well as our postponed Junior Athlecs Carnival. It was super to see the smiles on faces and the excitement from all for these two celebraons. Congratulaons to our Prep and PE teams for successful days. Thanks also to the P&C who provided the cakes for 100 Days of Prep which was shared with all Thursday aſternoon. Already this week we have seen a lot of lost property that are not labelled with student names. Please ensure that all hats/jumpers etc are labelled so that they can be returned if handed in. Could I also ask parents to check that your child hasnt accidently brought home a hat/jumper that belongs to another child as we have also had a few parents looking for property that was named that hasnt been handed into the office. There has already been much interest in how to enrol for 2020. Applicaons for all year levels for 2020 are now open. For those of you residing in catchment you are welcome to come in (have your residency confirmed) and collect an enrolment package to complete and return with the required supplementary paperwork. Staffing for 2020 will be done early Term 4 this year, so it would be great to have all applicaons in by the end of Term 3 so we have an indicave number for uniform sales, class composion etc. There will be limited availability for those out of catchment due to the connuing housing boom. Anyone wanng to put in an Expression of Interest may do so (EOI on website). This can then be completed and returned with the required supplementary paperwork inclusive of a cover leer outlining your want to be considered for PSPC. Kind regards, Donna Gosling | Principal We have a number of events and activities to look forward to: In the coming weeks…. Each year the Department of Education collects opinion information from parents, students and school staff via the School Opinion Survey, as part of school planning and annual reporting processes. At Pimpama State Primary College, your opinions matter to us, and your feedback is an important part of our continual improvement process. This opportunity for you to let us know what you think will, ultimately, improve outcomes for all students at PSPC. Coming home next week to the eldest in the family will be access information to provide your response. Participation in the survey is anonymous and all information collected will be treated confidentially. Access to the online survey will be available until Friday, 23 August, 2019. Further information regarding the surveys is available at www.qed.qld.gov.au/schoolopinionsurvey Stuart MacKenzie Matt Weir & Kellie Fletcher | Deputy Principals SRS (Student Resource Scheme) If you have agreed to participate in the 2019 SRS and not paid your fees or arranged a payment plan with the Business Manager, student access to online programs have been cancelled. Fees must be paid or payment plans arranged for access to be reinstated. Any questions regarding this scheme please do not hesitate to contact the Business Manager via email [email protected]. Last week we removed access to Mathletics and Reading Eggs for students that have not paid their SRS for 2019. Please contact the BSM to make payment and restore your child's access. PAYMENT OPTIONS Option 1: Payment of Cash/EFTPOS - Wednesday and Friday between 8.00 and 10.30 am Option 2: BPoint (information detailed on Invoice) Option 3: Internet Banking (direct payment into the school bank account). In the dark, cold jungle I saw a scary eagle. The trees were moving and I heard a scary noise, it was a snake ssss!! Rose 1JW In the dark and scary jungle I can see a snake slithering up a tree. Riley 1JW In the noisy jungle I can see green, spiky leaves and green bamboo. I can smell the minty smell of edible leaves. I can feel the wet ground. Lachlan 1JW In the hot jungle I can see poisonous tarantulas. Ferris 1JW In the jungle I can see the hot, bright sun and I can hear hissing snakes. Hunter 1JW In the misty jungle, I can see fast, rushing waterfalls and I can hear roaring tigers and chattering monkeys. Aarav 1JW After the man shot the beast of the forest with his rifle he checked it, but what he found was traumatising. Nacian 5S The war was the opposite meaning of impeccable. Everyone fell to the ground, facing their foe. Devastating but somewhat thrilling freedom will be served. Then… a bomb exploded. I dropped, too! Ella 5S Before the legendary monster obliterated the city, the polite inventor happily created the unknown antidote. I screamed in delight proudly holding it in the gleaming sunlight. Jemerson 5S Quietly the lingering essence filled the room to the point where I was swimming. Ryan 5B Surprisingly the old lady was as rich as me but I did not trust her with my money. Summer 5B Big and amazing, the bright sunflower glowed from the garden. Paige 5B Magnificent waves came crashing against me. Graceyn 5B Salty, sparkling waves splashed and slapped my face. Jordon 5B

Splash! Taylor paddled through the cool, salty water. She could feel her heart beating out of her chest. She was petrified. Thalia 6D My vision was filled with bright shiny white lights, my ears burning from the constant beeping of medical equipment. Taelah 6D The strange feeling made him feel like he was going to blow up and kept building in his body until he felt like a grenade waiting to explode. Sam 6S As the car pulled out of the driveway the pressure was building. The nerves in Tommy’s stomach felt more like pigeons flapping around in Bill Laurie’s pigeon farm. Tommy 6S His phone was vibrating uncontrollably in his pocket until he picked it up and saw the devastating notification. He dropped to his knees wailing in sadness and mourning. Madison 6S Descriptions of the most horrible teacher – 3S It was Monday morning, I was in class and he stomped through the door. As he got closer he looked at me with a sweaty and evil face, he was holding a whip. Our bodies were shaking, our hearts were beating so fast. Jed 3S It was Monday morning. I was in class. Bang! Bang! Bang! The teacher was very angry like a hot, burning fire sun. Gagandeep 3S It was Monday morning, I was in class and then she stomped through the door. Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.

Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

Set the example. Let children see you read.

Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and

reading skills.

Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Dino-Mite, where we hope you will Stomp, Chomp, and Read! It’s a fun

reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and

affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your

child’s reading habits.

We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Sincerely,

Mrs Donna Gosling
