Rebecca CostelloHoD Performing Arts

Rebecca has learnt and holds private teaching qualifications in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Highland - Scottish dance enabling her to mentor

numerous students of varying ages and abilities through their private dance examinations.  Rebecca has taught at several private dance studios in Brisbane

training and preparing students of all ages for great successes in their CSTD Jazz and Tap examinations, as well as various winning eisteddfod routines. 

Throughout high school she honed her skills on the violin, percussion and her voice, as well as participated in numerous award-winning bands and choirs at MacGregor

State High School.  Rebecca has performed, choreographed, costumed and musically directed various musicals both at an amateur and high school level.  At Kelvin Grove

State College she was the choreographer and choral director and was involved in costume and set production for Grease, Back to the 80’s and The Wizard of Oz and had the privilege of teaching dance to students enrolled in the Queensland Dance

School of Excellence in Years 8 to 12 and ballet to Year 4 and 5 students. At the College Rebecca loves imparting her knowledge of the arts to her students in class and in extra-curricular groups and the Aspiring Performer’s Academy.  Rebecca

believes in encouraging and fostering every student’s artistic ‘voice’.

Matthew has been a Music teacher in schools for over 10 years. He has taught students in Primary School, Middle School (years 7-9), Senior Secondary (years 10-12),

and Adults. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from Charles Darwin University, as well as having completed a Certificate IV in Training

and Assessment and a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). More recently, Matthew has successfully completed his Masters of Music Technology

through the University of Newcastle Matthew teaches a range of instruments, with a particular focus on guitar, drums,

keyboard, bass guitar and ukulele. He loves teaching, writing, recording, producing and performing music, with sound engineering also being another of his many

passions Since his arrival at PSSC, the music department has grown extremely rapidly – a

testament to his knowledge, skill and dedication.  He has developed the music and tech crew, introduced certificate courses and established the guitar club.

Alycia ShannonMusic

Starting in year 4, Alycia began learning the flute and by the time she was in year 10, this had expanded to Saxophone, Violin and Voice. She participated in school ensembles from the school Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and various

Vocal ensembles to being in Community Ensembles and Theatre productions. Throughout her senior years, Alycia focused on Flute and Saxophone completing

Grade 7 AMEB exams for both. It was then that she realised she wanted to be a Music teacher.

Alycia graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Education in Music and English in 2008. From here, she went to teach in Caboolture, Rockhampton and

finally Middlemount where she taught Primary Music and Instrumental music. Alycia was heavily involved in the Central Highlands Music community, helping organise

the Central Highlands Eisteddfod as well as working closely with other Arts teachers in the area.

Alycia teaches music, including the Aspiring Performers Academy and Music Extension to year 12 students and is the Director of the Harmonix.

Cindy AmbridgeDance

In 2018, Cindy completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training and previously the Level One teacher training through Perfect Form Physio, giving her the most recent

information on safe dance practice.  2016 saw her travelling to Melbourne to complete the level one teacher training for the Conservatoire of Ballet (CB). 

Cindy is trained in C.S.T.D Jazz, C.S.T.D Tap, Acrobatics and RAD Ballet at the Sue Harvey Academy of Modern Stage Dancing and then later at the Kim Bowkett Dance Centre (now Theatre and Dance). In 2006 she graduated with First Class Honours from the Queensland University of Queensland with a double degree: Bachelor of Creative

Industries (Dance) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary). She also holds a Bachelor of Behaviour Science (Psychology Major).  

Cindy also has extensive knowledge of the dance curriculum - employed for 12 years with Education Queensland (currently as a senior teacher) and a member of the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority Dance panel.  In 2015 she was seconded to be a

Senior Project Writer for Queensland Government’s Curriculum into the Classroom where she created dance resources aligned with the new Australian Curriculum for

dance teachers all over Queensland. Cindy has professional industry experience behind her. Prior to venturing into the

teaching, she travelled the world dancing professionally for 15 years gaining experience in stage shows, corporate events, dance captain roles and choreography. Some of her credits include: Warner Bros. Movie World, Sixties Mania Las Vegas, Batman Begins

Singapore, Dora the Explora Philippines, Dance Encore Productions Japan and the Tivoli Theatre Brisbane. She has also choreographed for Creative Generation State Schools on

Stage.

Ashleigh BowserDance

Ashleigh is a highly accomplished dancer.  She attended the esteemed Queensland Dance School of Excellence whilst completing her high school studies and then went

on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) at QUT. In the short time she has been at the college, Ashleigh has made a great contribution to the dance program and

dance troupe. 

Tara GoldhardtDrama

Tara Goldhardt started speech and drama at a very young age, a passion that she continued through primary school. Tara graduated from the University of Southern

Queensland with a double Bachelor of Drama and Senior Education. During University, she took on many performing arts positions throughout Toowoomba and the Darling Downs including chairing a Queensland Theatre Company Youth Theatre Company Project and freelance playwriting for numerous performance arts groups. After graduating, she took up a position teaching rurally and completed her first 6 years of teaching working in Biloela in Central Queensland. During this time, she

directed and designed school musicals and developed activities for members of the wider community.  She also continued extensive actor training, working with physical

theatre company Zen Zen Zo to develop her passion for movement based theatre. Opportunities to perform have always been important to Tara, and in the last few

years, she has branched out into musical theatre, starring in Biloela town productions of Chicago and The Sound of Music. In 2018 she was cast in Oklahoma.

At PSSC, Tara teaches Drama across all year levels, including the Aspiring Performers Program.

Why do you want a place in the Aspiring Performers Academy – Dance Strand?

Acceptance into the Junior Aspiring Performers Academy (APA) Dance strand is by audition only. The two-year course focuses on each individual student’s progression in technical and performance skills. Emphasis is placed on self-reflective practice and targeted training of core technique.

The program objective is to deliver studio style dance training by including ballet and jazz syllabus work. Students in Years 7 and 8 study the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet syllabus and Year 9 – 12 students study the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern Jazz Syllabus for one lesson each week and suitable candidates can sit for exams. Students also gain an understanding of anatomy including the latest research on mobility and the importance of fascia in safely achieving increased flexibility.

All students involved in the program perform in front of a live audience at various performance events.

Acceptance into the Junior Aspiring Performers Academy (APA) Music strand is by audition only. The two-year course focuses on musicianship, which brings together the knowledge and understanding of music with the development of inner hearing, cognition, artistic sensitivity and creativity in all music activity and thought. It involves critical reflection on music as an art form and as an expression of culture.

Students will learn the following skills (including aural skills):

Fundamental Percussion / Keyboard / Guitar Skills

Score reading (for multiple parts)

Using music technology to record and composeown music

Skills for live performance (both technical andexpressive)

Sound production and the acoustics of instruments

A variety of composition skills and techniques
