It’s easy to become distracted, even lose our

way sometimes with the many competing

interests that we are surrounded by.

Education is no different, and at times we all

need to be reminded. For several weeks I have

had a number, 3458, on a scrap of paper on

my computer which has been lost and then

found again many times over. It is this number

that has brought me back to what is important

for us here at HPS, Learning Power habits and

the belief that we can learn anything, be

anything if we are determined and put in the

effort.

What’s 3458 go to do with it I hear you ask?

That is how many Gotchas (Gotcha being

powerful tickets) we have accumulated so far

by our brave, intrepid learners. As a staff we

made the collective decision at the beginning

of the term to ‘ramp it up’ expecting more of

the kids if they were to be acknowledged for

their learning power. We did this because of

our commitment to challenge our students

wherever the opportunity exists. And you know

what? - they rose to the challenge.

So, it is time to celebrate (before they reach

4000!) our collective achievement and the

best way to do this is the Heathfield way of

being active as a school. We will be having

extended lunch until the end of the day on

Friday ,where the sports equipment will come

out, the chasey will kick off and the cubbies

will spring up.

I wanted to include some photos this week of

our determined kids learning about

badminton, our term focus sport. For any of

you that have played; it requires great hand

eye coordination and communication leading

to lots of funny moments. As you will see from

the photos the kids took the advice; ‘Keep

your eye on the shuttle (in this case balloon)’,

quite literally. Amazingly all the racquets made

it through largely unscathed!

Regards, Travis
