Our goal is to increase participation from last year to reach a total of $362,000 for 2014. If you have any questions about Stewardship, please contact [email protected] or Bob Courtemanche [email protected]. If you haven't already done so, please return your 2014 Pledge Card ASAP. Extra pledge cards can be found on the web at www.sjotm.org, in the narthex or call the office 9087662282 to have one sent to you. Jeanne Williams and I have seen an awful lot of each other in recent weeks. The Director of our Nursery School and I are seeking to strengthen our existing program, and that has meant lots of time talking, taking some road trips, and, sure, I’ll admit it, having an occasional beer after work while I scribble down notes, as I try to learn as much as possible about early childhood education. (I didn't study that in seminary.) So, Jeanne Williams and I see a lot of each other these days. Good thing she likes me. (At least I hope she does. God knows I adore her.) Our Nursery School Program is one of the finest in the area, preparing very young children for a lifetime of learning. Our graduates show up at Kindergarten ready to take on the world, and we couldn’t be prouder of them, or of the teachers who so tirelessly make this possible. What a gift to the community we are able to give! What a gift to the world! Who even knows what these young children will one day accomplish? Sure, they may not quite be able to tie their own shoes yet, but watch them in a few years. They may just change the world! Thanks to the boldness and vision of Jeanne Williams, the Nursery School Board, our Wardens, and our Vestry, I am proud to tell you that we have launched a program to offer scholarships to our Nursery School, and have established a Task Force to work on this exciting opportunity. On May 17 we will have a joint fundraiser, sponsored by both the parish and the school, and every dollar raised at that event will help fund scholarship positions in our spectacular school. Because when you have such a treasure as we have in our community, it is only natural to want to share it; to want to see just what could happen if a handful more children could grow and learn on top of the Mountain, children who may not otherwise be able to afford it. They may just change the world! Almost There...

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS

A big thanks goes to the Bernardsville Fire Department

who came to our rescue on Thursday, January 9th and

Friday, January 10th when we had two separate instances

of burst water pipes that set off the fire alarms

FROM THE SENIOR WARDENBob Courtemanche

At  our  Annual  Meeting  we   had   the   opportunity   to   reflect  on  our  parish   life.      We   have   come   a   long   way   in   the   past   few  years.     Spiritual   health   has   led   to   our   improved   financial  situation.  When   comparing   our   finances   from   2009   to   2013  (see   chart   to   the   right)   you  can   see   that   we   have   been  very  careful   stewards   of   what   we   have   been   given,   sometimes  having  to  make   painful  decisions   with  expenses.    Our  efforts  are   paying  off.    We  have  made  steady   progress  with  reducing  the  debt  from  our  building  project,  shaving  off  $100,000  from  the   loan  balance  in  2013.    With  this   debt  reduction,  the   stress  that  the   debt  service   payments   had  on  the   operating  budget  has   eased,  and  we  have  been  able   to  start   to  restore   funding  to  Outreach  and  our  Diocesan  Contribution.

Also  at  the  Annual  Meeting,  we  honored  the  ministry  of  Hilary  Thomas-‐Dorer,   who   completed   her   term   as   Junior   Warden,  and  welcomed  our  new  Junior  Warden,  Heather  Leef.      It  was  a  privilege   to  work  with  Hilary,  and   I  am   excited  about   sharing  this   ministry   with   Heather.    Our   community   is   fortunate   to  have  such  gifted  leaders!

In   the   weeks   to   come   we   will   be   announcing   a   Capital  Campaign  dedicated   to  eliminating   the   remaining  debt   from  the   building   project   and   building   a   Capital   Fund   to   provide  scholarships   for  our  Nursery  School,  and  care   for  our  physical  plant  over  time.    The  ability  to  offer  children  an  opportunity  to  attend   our  wonderful  Nursery   School  will   provide   a   focused  Outreach  Mission.     This   Mission  will  give   our  Parishioners   a  chance   to   give   their   time,   talents   and   financial   resources   to  help   families   in   Bernardsville   and   surrounding   communities,  while  continuing  to  strengthen  the  bond  with  Jeanne  Williams,  the  teachers,  and  the  parents  of  our  Nursery  School.
