Educating, Connecting and Empowering The U.S. Department of Defense has approved the selection of retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Peter Gumataotao to be the director of DKI APCSS. “I am deeply honored and extremely excited to have been given this opportunity to lead this exceptional team of professionals at DKI APCSS. In a dynamic, complex, and interconnected world, the need for better transparency, understanding, and cooperation is paramount. DKI APCSS provides this important portal to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, bringing together partners and allies alike,” said Gumataotao. When he arrives at the Center in January 2018, Gumataotao will replace Mr. James “Hammer” Hartsell who served as the director of DKI APCSS since November 2016. Mr. Hartsell looks forward to assuming new leadership opportunities in both the health industry and as a U. S. A team of Maldivians led by BrigadierGeneral Abdul Raheem ASC15-1,developed the Maldives “NationalStrategy on Preventing and CounteringViolent Extremism.” The team wascomprised of DKI APCSS alumni who

attended the same Security Sector Developmentworkshop in Honolulu to work on their project. Inaddition to Abdul Raheem, the group included LieutenantColonel Mohamed Saleem, Chief SuperintendentHamdhoon Rasheed, Chief Principle ImmigrationOfficer Hassan Khaleel, Chief Superintendent AbdullaWaheed and Major Hasan Amir.

Sunia Ratulevu (Fiji), CCM16-1,completed his Fellows Project byassisting in the development of thecountry’s National Humanitarian Policyfor Disaster Risk Management and forthe Tsunami Preparedness and

Response Plan.

Ivan Solano (Costa Rica), CSRT16-1,completed his Fellows Project to improve“Cooperation Effort to Combat CrimeSituation in San Jose, the Capital City ofCosta Rica.” He was able to establishsome direct lines of communication

between different police corps in his country.

Superintendent Purushottam Kandel(Nepal), CSRT16-1, completed hisFellows Project to “Introduce a TrainingSeminar on Conflict Management.”His training course was approved by theChief of Police and launched at the

National Police Academy.

Inspector Premsak Lertsuriyakul(Thailand), CSRT16-1, completed hisFellows Project by “Increasing theKnowledge on Terrorism for YoungPolice Officers in the Police Academy.”He provided a foundation and basic

training about terrorism to young police officers.

Adriana Venny Aryani (Indonesia),ASC16-2, completed her FellowsProject “Dissemination of Informationon the Bali Process on HumanTrafficking.” She also connected thiseffort with her work advocating and

lobbying her women, peace and security issue againstthe death penalty and terrorism.

Bolor Zorigt (Mongolia), ASC16-2,completed her Fellows Project,“improving Conference Management:Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on NortheastAsian Security (UBD) InternationalConference.” She and her team

successfully planned, organized and executed theinternational conference.

Huong Le Thu (Australia), ASC16-2,completed her Fellows Project bypublishing her paper in the LowyInstitute. It is entitled, “U.S.-VietnamRelations under President Trump.”
