We are really hoping to make this a big success, but we can’t do so without your input. To make this a truly bril- liant cookbook, we need to have 100 recipes. It does not cost anything for you to enter a recipe, but once you see the fin- ished product, we’re sure you’ll want to buy a copy or two to keep or give as Christmas presents. Take a look at the sample cookbook at the office. It’s so easy to add a recipe, go to www.theschoolcookbook.com and use access code: d6b3696. Just en- ter the recipe name, ingredients, method, upload a photo and enter your details. Or fill in a form from the office and hand in if you haven’t got internet access. Deadline 24 September .. and make some money for our school in the process. The fundraising company Bag2School have given over £7 million pounds to schools since 2001 - it is such a simple way to raise funds. We will distrib- ute bags to the children in October, that can be filled with good quality, clean, unwanted clothes, bags, belts, shoes (paired please) and bed linen. Bring the filled bags to school by 9am on Tuesday 2 November (NOT BEFORE please as we have nowhere to store them). There will be plenty of spare bags in the of- fice—do get as many as you need for you, your friends and relatives to fill. THANKS. De-clutter your wardrobe... A little about what we have planned….

Page 2

The first fundraiser already underway is the SCHOOL COOKBOOK, you will have heard about this at the end of last term and we hope that during the holidays many of you have managed to put on your favourite family recipe. These will make tremendous Christmas gifts, and we will be circulating pre-order forms shortly for these. At the end of the month (24th Sept) we are holding another FAMILY BEETLE DRIVE AND BINGO NIGHT—this is a great fun family event that went down really well last time. It coincides with the timing of the Friends Annual General Meeting (AGM) so we are holding this in the interval of the Games Night. The children will be supervised in a couple of classes to watch some DVDs whilst the Friends will spend 20 mins or so, updating parents on the fundraising events, profits and spending from this year. Even if you are not coming to the Games night, do pop along at 7.15pm to hear about how the Friends have done, and to ask questions or raise ideas. We will also be voting on the new committee—more about that later . The CHARITY CLOTHES BAG COLLECTION in April was a really easy & profitable fundraiser— if you’re clearing out your clothes, shoes, bags, belts or bedding then please save them for 2 November when there will be our next collection from school. We are planning a new adult event on Friday November 19: a CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENING where parents can come along with friends and family and purchase from a huge number of stall hold-ers who produce gifts, jewellery, Christmas food, cards, books, wrap, decorations and much, much more. The small entrance fee includes a glass of wine (or soft drink) and a mince pie. There will be a licensed bar and raffle. To get the children in the Christmas spirit, we are again inviting SANTA to the CHRISTMAS DISCO, which was a great success last year as you can see by the photos in this newsletter. We are continuing with the end of term CAKE STALLS, kindly baked for by different classes each time—the children have really enjoyed these and they are a lovely way to end each term. Above all, a big thank you in advance to you all for your continued support. Do come along to whichever events you can – we aim to raise money of course, but as long as you, your families and friends enjoy yourselves then that’s the most important thing.

Raising funds to support the school is a very impor-tant part of what the ‘Friends’ set out to do, as well as strengthening social links between the school, teachers and parents..

The ‘Friends’ run a wide variety of events which eve-ryone can participate in. The focus is on fun as well as fund raising so we can all have a great time.

The money raised goes towards various school pro-jects, eg interactive whiteboards, staging for the hall, planting for the playing field nature area. We also subsidise some School trips and visits from outside performers to help ensure these extra opportunities can be at a reasonable price. An enthusiastic committee of volunteers from families of the school run the ‘Friends’. We are keen to wel-come new volunteers to join the committee or simply to support with donations or offers of help at events. Being an active participant in the ‘Friends’ commit-tee is a rewarding experience, and helps develop great friendships; we meet for around 2 hours every couple of months. Please see below for our contact details or look at the NOTICEBOARD by the hall.

About the ‘Friends’

The Christmas edition of the ‘Yellow Moon’ Catalogues will be on their way later this term. They offer

hundreds of great value products to keep children entertained and to help their development. They have

excellent ideas for festive cards, crafts and gifts. You can order by phone, post or Internet,

Remember to use our Source Code: SSI1061

to ensure that we receive the cash back! Thanks to everyone who placed an order from

previous catalogues — we received

£141 commission last year.

The Friends of Sir Robert Hitcham’s Primary School: Registered Charity No: 1099287

The Friends work closely with the school ‐there is always a school representative at our meetings so that the ideas we come up with as parents, can be discussed back at school to ensure suitability. If we do not have a big project to fundraise for, then we ask the school to provide a list of equipment they would like us to purchase. In the last year we have spent nearly £5,000 on equipment and visits for the children, these include the following: Foundation: multi access music frame, waterproof beanbags, water play activity centre, sand and water play centre, rainbow set, mobile stor‐age, dressing up prop box, world toy pack, and a wall‐mountable blackboard. Key Stage 1: doctor set, multi storey car park, sun and sky canopy, role play cloaks, finger pup‐pets, role play BBQ, tool‐kit, literacy ‘grab and go’ kit, construction toys, radio controlled art, RCE with light, curved and straight tracks and assorted figures. Key Stage 2: poet visit, artist visit, boot‐scrapers, goal posts, Contribution to the Year 6 London trip, and the Y3/4/5 Norwich Ballet trip

We aim to ensure that every child can benefit from the fundraising run by the Friends. To have a say in the fundraising activities we run and on how the money gets spent, why not join the committee? We would greatly value more input from parents.

Where does your money go?

We would love to hear from anyone who would like to be

a part of our team Please contact us.

Who’s Who & Who are we missing!

What’s involved in the vacant Roles? Publicity & Communications: This involves producing the posters for events and the letters to families, designing the tickets, reminder slips and also stall / direction signs for events, and newsletters as required. Ideally you need good PC skills ( Word, PowerPoint or Publisher). (Support can be given by previous member).

Raffles: For events where we run a raffle you will be in charge of sourcing prizes (from local busi-nesses or parent donations), labeling up prizes, ordering raffle tickets, coordinating the selling of tickets before and at the event, and getting the prizes to the winners.

Discos: This includes booking the DJs for the Easter and Christmas discos, ensuring there are enough parent helpers and being on hand while the DJ sets up & packs away.

Organised Mum coordinator: Once a year order the ‘selling pack’ to show parents what’s available, set up display at school, copy order forms, collate orders and send off. Distribute goods to mums.

Refreshments & Supplies coordinator: Keeping & replenishing stocks as required for events—eg tea, coffee, squash, ketchup, napkins, cling film, rubbish bags etc

Thank Yous: Writing personal thank you letters to those volunteers who have supported our events.

* Yellow Moon coordinator: An easy job, ensuring the Easter & Christmas catalogues are la-beled up with our specific school code, counting catalogues into class piles for distribution.

* Photocopying and putting up Posters: An easy job, to be done when requested by publicity man-ager. Copy letters and collate by class for distribution, put up event posters around school. Training will be given.

* Event Photographer: Ideal for anyone with an interest in photography—taking photos at events that can be used on the BLOG or our newsletter, putting on memory stick / disc for publicity manager.

* you don’t have to join the committee to take on the roles marked *

Your Vote Counts at the Annual General Meeting September 24th is when the Friends hold their AGM, as well as updating parents on how funds have been spent this year, there is the opportunity for all interested parents to join our team. We would dearly love to hear from anyone who would like to be a part of our team — no experience needed, just someone who is keen to join in and can bring some fresh ideas. At the AGM we will be saying ‘Goodbye’ to Claire Baughan and Caroline Miller who have been on the com-mittee for a number of years. We thank them for all their hard work managing the Discos, Tuck shop, Publicity, Communications and the Bar…. that’s quite a few roles up for grabs! Our team is still small for a school that has over 260 families, so if any of you (mums OR dads) feel the urge to give a little of your time by joining the committee , it really would make a world of difference to the team by spreading the load a bit.

Volunteer Slip Holding a list of volunteers helps the ‘Friends’ Com-mittee to be confident that as events approach there is a network in place that can help ensure the event will run smoothly. Often, it’s the little things which make all the difference, so even if you can’t support the events in person your presence can be felt and appreciated. Volunteers might expect a phone call only a couple of times a year, but knowing you are willing to help gives the committee reassurance of success.
