NEEDS Previous program participants have repeatedly requested and supported the need for a comprehensive review and update in selected areas for the practicing neurologist, with an emphasis on therapeutics. As clinical neurology continues to evolve with theexplosion of discoveries in the neurosciences, our neurology faculty and CME planningcommittee strongly concur with the need for such a symposium.

OBJECTIVESAt the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:• Describe new concepts in the pathogenesis and management of patients with

Parkinson’s disease and other common movement disorders• Discuss the role of neuroimaging and medical management of stroke• Describe the evaluation and management of narcolepsy and epilepsy• Discuss the evaluation and management of patients with demyelinating diseases of

the central nervous system, including MS and ADEM• Understand new information regarding myotonic dystrophy and limb girdle muscular

dystrophies• Discuss the evaluation and management of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other

dementias• Identify the role of the brain in the production and appreciation of music• Identify the role of prions in neurologic practice

EVALUATIONEvaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possiblebias.

ACCREDITATION/CREDIT DESIGNATIONBaylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing MedicalEducation to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Baylor College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.5 category1 credits toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim onlythose credits that he/she actually spent in the activity.

NURSING CREDITThe University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston is an approved provider of continuingnursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the AmericanNurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity meets Type I criteriafor mandatory continuing education requirements toward relicensure as established by theBoard of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

Earn up to 21.6 contact hours by attending this educational activity. No partial credit will beawarded for attendance at any part of the day’s presentation. The participant must attend eachday in its entirety to receive CE for that day.

FEE, REGISTRATION & CONFIRMATION INFORMATIONRefer to the registration form for the fee schedule. Your registration will not be processed untilpayment is received. Your registration will be confirmed. If you have not received confirmationat least 5 business days before the activity start date, contact the Office of Continuing MedicalEducation (OCME) immediately.

If you plan to register on-site, contact OCME at least 24 hours in advance to confirm activity status and space availability. The OCME reserves the right to limit the number of participants in an activity and will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.

Payment must be in U.S funds, payable to Baylor College of Medicine. Continental breakfasts,breaks, luncheons, and syllabus are included in the registration fee.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICYRequests for registration refunds must be in writing and received by the Office of ContinuingMedical Education (OCME) at least 10 business days before the activity begins. The date therequest is received by the OCME will be considered the cancellation date. Requests received afterthe refund deadline will not be processed. Cancellations are subject to a $50 administrative feededucted from the registration fee paid to cover guarantees and other expenses. Requests shouldbe mailed to the OCME or faxed to 713.798.7955 or 713.798.6600.

The OCME reserves the right to cancel activities, not less than 10 business days before the scheduled date, if extenuating circumstances make it necessary. Registrants will be notified at thecontact number indicated on the registration form followed by written notification. If an activityis cancelled, OCME’s liability is limited to the registration fee paid.
