We hope to have a larger event, with kids events, venders, and all kinds of adult fun, including music, food and to top it, you guessed it... a parade! forward The theme will be decided and a button contest will again be launched. Most all public events have been canceled, postponed or reconfigured. This year the Amboy Days Festival has suffered the same fate. The committee decided to not push businesses for donations to fund the event, and to stay vigilant on the social distancing. In turn, the donations or funding we may receive will be donated to the Amboy Fire Department. This event was always a fundraising event in support of the Department, and ran in conjunction with the all school reunion. The Festival was created as an additional event to help draw people to the town, and have fun events for the kids. This year, the Fire Department will still hold an event for fund raising, so please plan on enjoying an evening Pork Chop on a stick and donating to our local Fire Department. the parade! Representatives from the Minnesota Valley Action Council and the Southwestern Minnesota Housing Partnership were on hand to answer questions regarding the funding programs currently available. There are great opportunities for assistance with your commercial spaces that have structural needs, such as windows, roof repair, plumbing or electrical repair. We are aware that most of the apartments are in much need of repair, or renovation work to be rentable, and encourage you to fill out the information sheet we had available at the meeting. Please note that this is in no way a firm commitment to the program at this point in time, but it will allow the MVAC to realize the needs of the community and allocate funding to our area. The Amboy Vision 2026 project began in January of 2020 and will be completed by late November. There will be two addition community planning sessions held; one in September and another in October of this year. If you would like additional information or are interested in participating in the commercial or rental rehab programs, and be a part of the vision, please contact Carol at [email protected] Watch for signs of the Amboy Vision 2026, post cards, and posters for the next meeting. Needs for family and teen activities and areas for these groups to gather were other expressed concerns. The purpose of these group meetings are to gather information on the interests and needs of the community as a whole, the businesses, and also the reality of Amboy becoming a bedroom community to Mankato. . With that in mind, we are looking to accommodate more people living in Amboy, and working outside the community. For that reason, we are renovating the existing apartments above the downtown businesses, but also looking at the rest of Amboy for housing opportunities. The other option that our community may have available, once the School is removed, is an opportunity to expand housing into that area. Around forty people representing several businesses attended the meeting at Bonnie’s Room. Input concerning the business community’s needs were similar to those of the first meeting, with a few more details about what existing and possible new businesses need. Funding for business start-ups, business expansion and filling the vacant buildings on Maine Street Amboy were popular topics. One of our missions with this vision is to help existing and new start ups, so open discussions will continue to include business networking, advertising, and promotion of Amboy. The Amboy Area Community Club would like to thank everyone for their participation and input in the second group gathering on Monday, August 3rd. If you missed it, Amboy Vision 2026 held their second community planning session with the area’s business community. The purpose of the meeting was to assess interest in commercial and rental rehabilitation of our Maine street.
