After the trial, Victor’s family travels to Belrive. While there, Victor climbs a mountain and happens upon his creation, who tells Victor of the tragic isolation he has endured, which is why he killed William and framed Justine, to get revenge on the one who made him so monstrous and lonesome. The monster then implores Victor to make him a female companion, and in return he will exile himself from civilization forever. Victor agrees to this deal and sets to work.

When Victor is about to finish, he becomes angered at the prospect of having another monster be set upon the world and in his rage he destroys his work. When the monster learns of it, he swears vengeance on Victor.

Victor later learns that his friend Henry has been murdered, causing him to spiral into despair. After recovering, he returns home to marry his childhood friend, Elizabeth. However, she too is murdered by the monster, and Victor makes it his goal to kill the creation he made.

Victor eventually tracks the monster to Antarctica, but is killed by the monster. The monster laments what he has done, and goes to die in the frozen lands of the north.
