'Bible Study for Real Life': next meetings before Sunday morning Mass on 19 November (Book of James) and 10 December (Book of 1 Peter), in the Retro- choir from 9am until 9.45am. Greyfriars Friendship Club: On Thursday we were entertained by Highly Strung - a local music group. The hall was filled with the sound of music and song; some of us even managed a dance! A joyous afternoon finished off with our usual delicious tea. We were pleased to welcome eight new members. November 16th is a Quiz and December 14th is a Christmas Lunch (12.30 - 3.30). The only desire of our God is that all should know and love him, and find in him the fulfilment that they seek. Even a pagan king like Cyrus is used to further this knowledge of God - just as Jesus uses Caesars head to make the point again: all belong to God, and the mission of all who acknowledge that belonging is to help others to find it. This is exactly what we see Paul, Silvanus and Timothy doing, as they write to the people of Thessalonica, to whom they carried the Good News of Jesus Christ. November Dead Envelopes: Each day during November, Mass will be said for those on the Dead List. Please list the names of your deceased loved ones and place them in the special envelopes which will be available at all entrances to the church this weekend. Please then place the envelopes in the box on the Sanctuary steps. Y ou may wish to include an offering, as for a Mass (cheques should be made payable to Trustees OFM Clevedon). River of Remembrance: a beautiful river will be placed on the Sanctuary steps after the Feast of All Saints. You are invited to bring a photograph or card (max 4” x 6”) with the name of your deceased loved one, giving a more visual reminder. Please ensure your name and telephone number are on the back of your picture to ensure the photos are returned to their owners. Harvest Collection: all contributions have been donated to the Clevedon Food Bank and the Julian Trust. Thank you v. much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. Sacrament of Confirmation 2018: The programme is starting soon for those wishing to be confirmed next year. Open to Year 9 or above in Sept 2017. Please speak to Fr. Reg or contact parish office so we can suit you. We hope to hold the course in Clevedon this year.

CHILDREN’S CLOTHES DONATION: Please leave (in the Narthex) children’s clothes (4-11 year old) for the school in Peru.

200 Club: September winner was Mr P Bradley. The last draw for £200 will take place on final Sunday of December. The prize structure from January: 3 monthly winners and prizes will be: 1st prize £50, 2nd prize £20 and 3rd prize £10. Numbers are available for 2018. SPUC: Saturday 4th November the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (SPUC) is holding a meeting at St Joseph’s Fishponds, Bristol BS16 3QT from 7 pm to 9.30 pm, giving information on abortion and pro-life matters.

Sacristan: After many years valued service Paul Keenan is stepping down from the role of Sacristan at the end of December. Sacristans help prepare the Mass. We all will miss Paul’s expertise and need people to share out these tasks. CATENIANS QUIZ—Saturday 25 November: Tickets for this "quiz of the year" will be on sale after each Mass next weekend (28/29 October). GREYFRIAR’S ASTRONOMY CLUB: don’t forget: next Friday all welcome to the family astronomy club. A selection of telescopes and binoculars to use. Any one interested in photography and/or computers—please come along to advise on taking astronomical photographs. First meeting of the club will be on Friday 27th October (new moon) in Greyfriars’ at 7pm until 8.30pm and approx. every fortnight. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Holy Rosary in October: Pope Francis has encouraged us to pray the Rosary for peace this year. Every Friday in October after 10am Mass, we will pray the Rosary, and throughout the year on Tuesday evenings at 730pm all are invited to pray the Rosary and Novena to St Antony for Peace and the needs of our parish.

Bonfire Night—Sat 4th Nov - 7pm - St Joseph's, Portishead: Hot dogs, sparklers and toasted marshmallows. Join us for a crackling good night and support good causes: Sponsor a Developing World Seminarian and HCPT.

Apostleship of the Sea: Saturday 4th November / 1030am —coffee morning and autumn sale at St Mary’s, Walton. Entrance: £2. Please come and support us! Missio APF Mass: St Francis, Nailsea on Friday 17th Nov @7pm. All welcome. Other Masses and locations are on the noticeboard.

Evening Prayer with Bishop Declan: Wednesday 29th November –730pm Celebrating Evening Prayer of the Church in the Cathedral and launching our Diocese into Pope Francis’ Year of Mission. Fr Reg is going; if you would like to join him, he can give you further details.

Prayer for Refugees

Dear Lord, Every morning we awake to find a deeper chill in the air, how much more cutting must the chill be for those with inadequate housing and little clothing. Help us to remember those displaced by war, politics or famine. May we remember them in our prayers and in our deeds. We also pray for the peace that would enable their resettlement. Lord, hear us.
