$400 Non-members

Designed to prepare critical care

professionals pursuing CCP-C, CFRN, CTRN and FP-C specialty certifications.

Presented by currently certified nurses and paramedics, the program reviews the advanced clinical and operational material that certification-eligible critical care transport providers are expected to understand.

Developed by the Air & Surface

Transport Nurses Association, the International Association of Flight & Critical Care Paramedics and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Emergency Medicine Education Program.

For more information contact the IAFCCP Office at 770-979-6372.

The Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) is just around the corner! Don’t miss out on the most highly attended air medical

critical care conference with over 2,500 attendees annually. Registration information is posted and can be accessed through the

IAFCCP website and FaceBook page or by going directly to the AAMS site. Your IAFCCP membership qualifies you for a $100 discount on the AMTC12 registration fee. But, if you’ve already

waited this long to sign up then you’ve missed the early bird registration deadline. (Last year’s was extended, no guarantee that

will happen again this year.) Be sure to register before October 5th to qualify for the regular conference registration fee rate, otherwise you’ll be paying the “On Site” rate of $750 (no member discount

offered).

This year AMTC is in Seattle, WA; downtown close to Pike Place

Market and the Space Needle! The conference is being held at the Washington State Convention Center with the Sheraton Seattle

serving as the conference hotel. The hotel is attached to the conference center. There are also two additional hotels this year offering economical lodging choices. Hotels are a short walk from

the conference center via an underground walkway. In order to book your room you will once again need to use the housing code

supplied to you via e-mail after you register. If all rooms become booked, don’t fret as there are many other hotel selections within walking distance. Accessing downtown from the airport is easily

accomplished on Link Light Rail, as it lets you off near the Convention Center and all of the hotels at the University Street Station Bay A, and costs less than $3.00 one-way.

AMTC12 offers 150+ education sessions covering topics in a variety

of disciplines including safety, core clinical, specialty clinical, management, aviation, research, and communications. Monday and Tuesday have always begun with Keynote speakers that are a must

see, but this year a Keynote speaker is being added for Wednesday morning as well. All courses are now posted online by day and by topic area so you can start planning your days.

There are many pre-cons that may be of interest to you as well. This

year the IAFCCP is offering a single pre-con entitled, “Live”

Interactive Case Studies – Taken from the Streets. You can find out more

about, and register for, this pre-con by going to the IAFCCP website where members will find discounted registration fees. Those interested in taking the FP-C and CCP-C exams will find that they

are being offered pre-conference as well as a prep course for these exams. Information and registration are available through the

BCCTPC and the IAFCCP and websites. Other activities occurring during the conference include the ever-

popular CAE cup competition (formally the METI cup), the MedEvac Foundation International’s silent auction, the Community Awards Banquet, the Exhibition Hall full of vendors and

organizations (such as the IAFCCP!), the IAFCCP sponsored Critical Care Lab (stop by the booth to sign up), and the infamous

MASH Bash on Wednesday night! The Annual Membership Meeting Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, October 19th from Noon until 1:30pm at the conference center.

New Tactical

Paramedic Exam in

Development

The Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic

Certification (BCCTPC), recently announced

development of a Tactical Paramedic (TP-C) Exam.

The intent for the TP-C exam is to establish a single

standard for all tactical paramedics in the U.S. military and law enforcement communities.

Competency is important in the face of rising

patient acuity levels, rapidly developing technology,

and in austere and hostile environments. The

BCCTPC is committed to providing specialty

certification for transport and out-of-hospital

professionals as a means of validating the essential

knowledge and judgment required for safe and

competent practice. The TP-C exam marks the

third specialty certification exam developed by the BCCTPC since 2000.

After a request from the U.S. military to develop a

certification exam for paramedics who primarily

operate in a tactical medical environment, the

BCCTPC together with industry subject matter

experts from across the United States met in Kansas

City in June to create the outline for a job analysis

survey. BCCTPC Chairman, Graham Pierce said,

“From the beginning of this process, we have been genuinely excited about the commitment of the tactical paramedic community to advance the accreditation of their profession. Collaborating with professionals from every aspect of the tactical medicine community in both civilian and military sectors has been one of the most rewarding undertakings the BCCTPC has ever done.”

An initial step in developing a valid exam is to

define the job skills and tasks that a tactical

paramedic performs in terms of the competencies

necessary to safely and effectively perform the job

at a targeted level of expertise. The method to

determine this is to complete a job analysis study

to obtain this information that will determine the

content of the certification exam.

Mr. Pierce said, “We look forward to developing an exam that will not only standardize the body of knowledge of the tactical paramedic, but will establish a benchmark of excellence that all tactical medicine operators can achieve to demonstrate their own commitment to providing the best care possible in their complex and difficult patient care environment.”

The exam development and administration process

will be conducted in partnership with Applied

Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP), who are

experts in performing job analysis studies. The

exam will be developed and administered in

accordance with the current professional and

governmental standards for test development, as

established by the National Commission for

Certifying Agencies, the National Organization for

Competency Assurance, and the National Council

on Measurement in Education.

The Job Analysis Survey is set to go out via email

in August to tactical paramedics across the

country. Follow up phases will include item

writing, exam construction, cut score study, and

beta testing of the exam. Beta testing is scheduled for April 2013 with the final exam

available nationwide summer of 2013.

brings together a group of eight Heroes, medevac industry leaders and volunteers from outside the industry, for a common cause… to raise money for vital medevac research and education programs. The event will be held Saturday, October 20 on San Juan Island, just prior to the start of the Seattle, WA hosted - 2012 Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC). It is shaping up to be the largest single day fundraising event in the Foundation’s history.

“Each of these Heroes has accepted a “mission” to raise money for the Foundation, which is just incredible,” remarks Mike Stanberry, Chief Hero and CEO of Metro Aviation. “They are passionate about medical transport and excited to give back to the medevac community. With San Juan Island as the mission location, we are sure to have a very memorable and successful event.” The Heroes will be flown from Seattle to Friday Harbor

on San Juan Island Saturday morning, where they will be sequestered at Roche Harbor. Using only their cell phones to solicit donations, the Heroes will remain on the beautiful but remote island until they have each completed their mission, at which point they will be "retrieved" by the MedEvac Foundation.

EMS Drug Shortage

Update

IAFCCP’s Vice President and GLAC

Chairman, Chris Hall, is keeping a pulse on this

national EMS crisis and posted the following

report:

The Senate passed S. 3187, the Food and Drug

Administration Safety and Innovation Act, by a

vote of 96-1. The bill maintains the revisions to

the drug shortage notification process that our

group of 16 EMS/CCT-related organizations

sought during the bill's development at the

Committee level. The Senate Health,

Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP)

Committee amended the statutory language in

its bill to cover manufacturers of drugs used in

the provision of emergency medical care and

surgery and included all sterile injectable drugs

as well. (The original draft included "life-

supporting" and "life-sustaining" drugs, but did

not make specific reference to drugs used in

emergency situations.) Watch our website for

developments as they unfold. Do not hesitate to

contact Chris Hall with questions or

suggestions.
