Originally built in 1779 and later remodelled between 1831 and 1847 in
the “picturesque style” as a larger mansion to create an imposing gentleman’s
residence, Foxholes is a magnifi cent example of Georgian and Victorian
architecture. Many original features remain including decorative oak panelling,
staircase, feature marble fi replaces, antique chandeliers, parquet fl ooring
and ornate plasterwork to the walls and ceilings.

Foxholes was the former seat of the Talbot family and after the First World
War, valuable house contents were subject to a two day auction sale. In
1922 Foxholes was sold to a local doctor who used it as a home and
surgery. In the 1950s it became “The Foxholes Hotel” and later a care
home. After a number of years in decline, the property was purchased in
2006 by the current owners who have spent a great deal of time and
effort to sympathetically restore its former glory and to enhance for
modern living.
This grand stately home is impressive from the outset with a choice of
two entrance gates leading onto the tarmac drive that affords ample secure
parking. Stone steps leads up to the modern glazed entrance porch and
further into the strikingly handsome dining hall. Setting the tone for this
historic home, the dining hall is rich in impressive period features including
wooden panelling to the walls, parquet flooring and detailed plasterwork
to the walls and high ceilings. . Having a fireplace in every room was
common to the era and amazingly, many of the original fireplaces at
Foxholes have been retained and restored. Arguably the most impressive
is that of the dining hall that is unified into the wooden panelling with a
stone surround and hearth.
Leading on into the games room which features tall sash windows with
pretty original shutters, intricate plasterwork and an imperial white marble
fireplace. The conservatory that was added 8 years ago is fully glazed with
attractive oak effect internal frames and a stunning garden outlook.

Part of the original Georgian build, the formal drawing room to the house
enjoys grand proportions with high ceilings and rich ornate plasterwork.
The tall bay windows look out over the landscaped rear garden and original
period features include exposed wooden floorboards, beautiful chandeliers
and a unique decorative painted wooden fireplace with pretty tiled surround
and hearth. There is also a cosy snug, a more informal reception space
with gas fire set within a restored slate and wooden surround. The large
family kitchen is bright and spacious with classic handmade painted solid
wood wall, drawer and base units. High quality fitted appliances include
NEFF double oven with grills, warming drawer, coffee machine, microwave,
induction hob and a 3 door AGA set within a tiled inglenook. The double
belfast sink enjoys a lovely outlook over the rear lawn and there is a rear
glazed porch that provides access onto the patio and is a lovely tranquil
spot from which to enjoy a morning coffee whilst looking out over the
manicured garden. Located just off the kitchen there is a useful utility room
with space for a washing machine, dryer and American style fridge freezer.
Steps also lead down into a breakfast room which affords space for
occasional dining furniture. Further accommodation to the ground floor
includes a home office, butler’s pantry, WC, controls room and a back
entrance hall with fitted storage cupboards creating an ideal cloaks area
with access onto the front drive.

The grand wooden staircase regally leads up from the dining hall to the
spacious landing which is fi lled with light afforded via two stained glass and
leaded sunlights. There are a total of fi ve double bedrooms on this fl oor
and fi ne period features are again a regular occurrence across with a
selection of original fi replaces and intricate egg and dart plasterwork. The
master suite enjoys a spacious and light fi lled dressing room and very
generously sized ensuite which includes both an impressive freestanding
oval bath and walk-in rain shower. The bedroom enjoys a beautiful garden
aspect which can be enjoyed sat affront the large bay windows, with views
continuing to stretch into the surrounding countryside. Three of the other
bedrooms on this fl oor also benefi t from ensuites and one from an adjoining
dressing room. There is a fi fth bedroom on this fl oor currently being used
as a gym. The landing also provides access into a linen cupboard and under
stairs storage space. An inner landing conceals the former servant’s staircase
that begins on the ground fl oor and continues up to the second fl oor
landing. This additional fl oor is ideal for larger families and boasts a further
four bedrooms, three doubles and a single, and a family shower room. This
is a fantastic and versatile space that could be used for a number of
purposes, whether that is as bedrooms for older children, guests or even
as home offi ces tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of the house.

Foxholes is also ideal for those with dependant relatives as there is a lovely
annexe that benefi ts from its own external access or can be internally
accessed via the back entrance hall. Accommodation includes an open
plan living dining room, kitchen and a fi rst fl oor master suite that includes
a double bedroom, dressing room and a fully tiled ensuite shower room.
Alternatively, the dressing room could also be used as a second double
bedroom.
The surrounding grounds amount to 0.87 acres and have been carefully
designed by the current owners. They now present a wonder of visually
attractive gardens and lawns that feature an array of vibrant plants, fl owers
and trees, including some of those originally planted specimen trees and
rhododendrons. The raised patio overlooks the well kept lawn and adjoining
rose garden and a path leads to a lower terrace with traditional fl ower
borders and a seating area. Practically, there is ample space for parking on
the driveway and an attached double garage at the front. Also within the
grounds, there is a further garage block for up to four cars.
