The Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God! A day of obligation, too. Also celebrated as World Day of Peace!
Pope Francis
General Audience
December 19, 2018 Dear brothers and sisters:
In a few days it will be Christmas. In this busy season,
we might ask ourselves how the Lord himself would like
us to keep this feast. If we look at the first Christmas, we
see that it is full of God’s surprises. Mary is visited by an
angel; Joseph is told to take her in, to become a father to
her Child and to flee with the Holy Family to Egypt. But
the greatest surprise of all is that God himself becomes a
little Child, born in humility and poverty. Christmas
changes our world. It speaks to us of God’s self-giving
love that should inspire the way we live and relate to one
another. It tells us that we best celebrate the Saviour’s
birth by imitating Mary’s trusting faith and Joseph’s quiet
openness to God’s will, and by opening our hearts to the
Lord, who asks us to make room for him in our busy
lives. Amid the bustle of our Christmas preparations, may
we not forget the very One whose birth we are
celebrating! And in worshiping the Son of God, born in
the poverty of our flesh, may we be mindful of the poor
and those in need all around us. This Christmas, may you
and your families experience the joy and peace
proclaimed by the angels, and be ever more open to
God’s wonderful surprises!

Hello my dear ones, Christmas is a time of great joy!
To enter into that joy we have to enter into that manger
and see Baby Jesus, Blessed Mother and St. Joseph. That
was what the shepherds did after hearing the good news
from the Angel. Any amount of decorations and music or
parades and partying won’t replace our journey to
Bethlehem. Sitting on Santa's lap and taking pictures are
fun. But if we stop there, we won’t be able to sit with God,
the only-begotten Son, close to the Father’s heart. Hope we
are ready for the journey to Bethlehem. Let us decorate our
hearts with all that are pleasing to the Baby in swaddling
clothes lying in a manger and ‘see the glory as of a
Father’s only-begotten Son, full of grace and truth’.
I wish you all a very blessed and joyful Christmas.
With love and prayers, Fr. Paul.

Pope’s Message for World Youth Day Contd. From last week
...It can be expressed in different ways: in marriage, in
consecrated life, in the priesthood… All these are ways
of following Jesus. The important thing is to discover
what God wants from us and to be brave enough to say
“yes”.
Mary was a happy woman, and this is because she
replied generously to God and opened her heart to
God’s plan for her. When God has a proposition for us,
like the one he had for Mary, it is not intended to
extinguish our dreams, but to ignite our aspirations.
Propositions like this are meant to make our lives
fruitful and produce many smiles and happy hearts. To
respond to God positively is to take a first step towards
being happy and towards making many people happy.
Dear young people, take courage, enter within
yourselves and say to God: “What do you want from
me?” Allow God to answer you. Then you will see how
your life is transformed and filled with joy.
... May Our Lady be with you on this pilgrimage, and
may her example encourage you to be brave and
generous in your response.
Have a good journey on your way to Panama! And,
please, do not forget to pray for me. See you soon.

Father, all-powerful God, your eternal
Word took flesh on our earth when the
Virgin Mary
placed her life at the service
of your plan. Lift our minds in
watchful hope to hear the voice which
announces his glory
and open our minds
to receive the Spirit who prepares us for
his coming. We ask this through Christ
our Lord. ~AMEN.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting,
the child leaped in her womb. And
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit
and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed
are you among women, and blessed is
the fruit of your womb…, Luke(1:39-45)
