A day of obligation, too. Also celebrated as World Day of Peace! Pope Francis General Audience December 19, 2018 Dear brothers and sisters: In a few days it will be Christmas. In this busy season, we might ask ourselves how the Lord himself would like us to keep this feast. If we look at the first Christmas, we see that it is full of God’s surprises. Mary is visited by an angel; Joseph is told to take her in, to become a father to her Child and to flee with the Holy Family to Egypt. But the greatest surprise of all is that God himself becomes a little Child, born in humility and poverty. Christmas changes our world. It speaks to us of God’s self-giving love that should inspire the way we live and relate to one another. It tells us that we best celebrate the Saviour’s birth by imitating Mary’s trusting faith and Joseph’s quiet openness to God’s will, and by opening our hearts to the Lord, who asks us to make room for him in our busy lives. Amid the bustle of our Christmas preparations, may we not forget the very One whose birth we are celebrating! And in worshiping the Son of God, born in the poverty of our flesh, may we be mindful of the poor and those in need all around us. This Christmas, may you and your families experience the joy and peace proclaimed by the angels, and be ever more open to God’s wonderful surprises! To enter into that joy we have to enter into that manger and see Baby Jesus, Blessed Mother and St. Joseph. That was what the shepherds did after hearing the good news from the Angel. Any amount of decorations and music or parades and partying won’t replace our journey to Bethlehem. Sitting on Santa's lap and taking pictures are fun. But if we stop there, we won’t be able to sit with God, the only-begotten Son, close to the Father’s heart. Hope we are ready for the journey to Bethlehem. Let us decorate our hearts with all that are pleasing to the Baby in swaddling clothes lying in a manger and ‘see the glory as of a Father’s only-begotten Son, full of grace and truth’. When God has a proposition for us, like the one he had for Mary, it is not intended to extinguish our dreams, but to ignite our aspirations. Propositions like this are meant to make our lives fruitful and produce many smiles and happy hearts. To respond to God positively is to take a first step towards being happy and towards making many people happy. Dear young people, take courage, enter within yourselves and say to God: “What do you want from me?” Allow God to answer you. Then you will see how your life is transformed and filled with joy. ... May Our Lady be with you on this pilgrimage, and may her example encourage you to be brave and generous in your response. Have a good journey on your way to Panama! And, please, do not forget to pray for me. See you soon. Thank you to all who supported this fundraising program. Special thanks to all the volunteers who sold tickets and/or came out to make the meatballs, especially to Stephen Martin and David Pastirik for their leadership. We are also very grateful to Maria Fazzalari, Denis & Anita Bilodeau, Yoli Pellegrino, Nick Villela, George Poll, Ivan Slobodnik, Faisal & Nazira Kaba and grade 8 students Nikloas Marcello and Hailey Marcello for their support in the whole process. [There are few more Jars of meatballs left (now frozen), for sale]. Thank you again, for all your support!

December 19, 2018 Dear brothers and sisters:

In a few days it will be Christmas. In this busy season,

we might ask ourselves how the Lord himself would like

us to keep this feast. If we look at the first Christmas, we

see that it is full of God’s surprises. Mary is visited by an

angel; Joseph is told to take her in, to become a father to

her Child and to flee with the Holy Family to Egypt. But

the greatest surprise of all is that God himself becomes a

little Child, born in humility and poverty. Christmas
