Good Money Management Seminar

Presented by SCORE Advisor, Keith Stine, this free seminar is for parents and high school students who are preparing for college.
Overview - Mr. Stine is a successful small business owner who provides financial counseling to individuals wanting to start their own small businesses.
Goals - To protect our children from financial failures, we need to teach them the fundamentals of Good Money Management.-Keith Stine.

Community Service Project Bottle Cap Collection
Galveston County 4-H will be participating in the “10 Benches Memorial Project.” Sponsored by the Santa Fe Tribe Moms and the Santa Fe Strong Resiliency Center, this project consists of taking recycled bottle caps and turning them into benches for a memorial garden in Santa Fe.
If you wish to participate in this activity, please collect bottle caps (list below) and bring to our next County Council meeting (January 28, 2019 at 7 p.m.)
Acceptable Caps (recycle # 2, 4, or 5)
Milk Jug caps
Apple sauce pouch caps
Drink bottle caps (soda, water, juice, sports drinks)
Flip-top caps (i.e ketchup)
Spout caps (i.e mustard)
Medicine bottle caps with personal info REMOVED

Community Service Project Handmade Cards
We will be making Thinking of You, Brighten Your Day and Holidays cards benefitting those across our county/district in need of encouragement. Cards will be distributed to designated organizations in D9.
Clubs can make and distribute their cards locally to organizations of their choice. Email Darla Cox the number of cards and where distributed, so we can turn in our community service numbers at Big Time in D9.
County Council Meeting When: January 28, 2019, 7:00 p.m.

Join us for the next Galveston County 4-H Council meeting. Council is open to all Galveston County 4-H’ers who are 12 years old or serve as club president or council delegate. Through County Council, 4-H’ers plan and coordinate county involvement, develop leadership opportunities, and promote and encourage 4-H work.
Remember to bring any bottle caps you may have collected for the ‘10 Benches Memorial Project.”

Dog Validation Deadline: January 10, 2018
Where: Due on 4-H Connect
Texas 4-H Dog Show will be held July 12-14, 2019. To be eligible dogs must be validated through 4-H Connect by January 10, 2019. There is no fee, just fill out the information and upload two pictures. Any mixed breed or purebred dog over six months old by July 12 is eligible. For detailed instructions on how to validate your dog, click here.

Cost: $120/includes meals and 4-H Curriculum
ARCHERY, PISTOL, RIFLE, and SHOTGUN
Training will include classroom education and live firing exercises covering shooting and coaching principles, curriculum training, 4-H basics and more.
Check-in and dinner at 5 p.m. Friday evening with training immediately following. Training will continue Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.
Lodging is on your own. Jasper, TX is only 15 miles away and has several hotels. Holiday Inn Express has offered a rate of $112.95 if you tell them you are with Newton 4-H but there are other hotels available.

National 4-H Congress Applications
Application Deadline: Decembers 26, 2018 via 4-H Connect
When: April 6-11, 2019
Where: National 4-H Conference Center, Washington, DC
Ages: 15-18 years olds
Registration Fee: $2,000.00/due February 4, 2019 via 4-H Connect
Applications must be submitted online via 4-H Connect. Selection will be based on the online application; you may be contacted for a telephone interview. The final selection will be announced on, or before, January 14, 2019.

Healthy Living Summit Scholarship
Application Deadline: December 21, 2019
Three team scholarships are available for the 2019 4-H National Youth Summit on Healthy Living. Credit beyond the three registrations can be used for travel expenses.

Vet Science 4-H Club’s Dog Wash Training The Galveston County 4H Vet Science Club visited the Safari Veterinary Care Center in League City, where Dr. Klages and his staff demonstrated how to properly bath canines and how to clip their nails in preparation for the club’s Dog Wash. The club washed more than thirty dogs, trimmed nails and even painted a few toenails. Proceeds of $519 will be divided between League City Dog Park Association and Bay Area Pet Adoptions.
Commissioners Court Gift Baskets Galveston County 4-H Council officers presented the Commissioners Court with gift baskets in appreciation of the Commissioners’ continued support of 4-H.

Island 4-H Donate to ’Soldiers’ Angels’ The club made cards and stuffed Christmas stockings “Soldiers’ Angels.” Rohan B. hand delivered the stockings to the Soldiers’ Angels Headquarters in San Antonio. The stockings will be distributed to the deployed or medically interned soldiers or vets. The club also took the opportunity to thank the VFW for their service during their Veteran's Day meeting by making them a poster with everyone's signature.
Vet Science Donates to Shriners The club donated gifts for children at Shriners Burn Hospital in Galveston. A veterinarian from UTMB, Dr. Lee Chichester, demonstrated canine nail clipping in preparation of the clubs’ Dog Wash.

Vet Science Pony Rides The club raided $1,183 at their annual Pony Ride fundraiser. The proceeds will go toward military care
packages, Vet Science’s online curriculum and toward Faith’s Clark’s recordbook trip.
