Welcome to Seattle and TypeCon 2016,

In this notebook you’ll find a few of our favorite destinations for the 4 days you are in Seattle. We are no strangers to playing tour guides. Each year we host a 4-part Design Lecture Series where we bring world-class designers to Seattle to give free lectures at the Rem Koolhaas-designed Central Library. The best part of the series is getting to show our personal design hero es around town. We took April Greiman to Nordstrom to buy last minute platform sho es for her lecture. We ate pork belly and spicy plantain chips with Lance Wyman and Adrian Shaughnessy at one of our favorite restaurants, Marjorie. We pored over design books with Karel Martens at Peter Miller Books. We toured the Seattle Art Museum with Stefan Sagmeister, and took a late-night trip to the top of the Space Needle with Experimental Jetset.

This is not a comprehensive guide, it’s really just scratching the surface of Seattle, but it should keep you busy. While you’re in town grab a copy of The Stranger — our free alt-weekly newspaper, City Arts — our free arts magazine, Gray Magazine — for all things regional design, and Arcade — for all things Seattle design.

Sincerely,Civilization
