Introducing the Judges All Rounder

Britt-Marie Young

I’m Swedish born , but have lived in the UK for the bigger part of my life, married to my husband Ron and we have three children and five grandchildren. My first dog was a Rough Collie, called Lorino, with whom I competed in Obedience classes when I was in my teens. Dogs and Horses have always been my passion since I was very young.

I bought my first briard in 1977 and started showing six months later. My first judging appointment was in 1982 and I awarded CC’s for the first time five years later. I have bred 13 Champions, including overseas, and have also been Top Breeder in my breed.

I have owned the following breeds: Greyhound, Afghan hound, Rough collie, Smooth Collie, Labrador, Shih Tzu, Briard and Lhasa Apso.

Over the years, I have judged at Open Show level, numerous BIS, Working, Pastoral, Utility and Hound Groups and about 65 breeds in breed classes.,

I have judged Overseas in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Belgium.

I give CC’s in several breeds and have been passed to judge the Pastoral Group at Championship Show Level.

I judged Smooth Collie of the year in 2007, The East Anglian Superdog in 2016, and Essex Top Dog in 2017.

I’m President of Herts. & Essex Border CS and on the Committee of Windsor Ch. Show. I have also been on the Briard Association and British Briard Club Committees in the past.

I am very much looking forward to and feel very privileged to have been asked to judge East Anglian Collie Association Collie of the year Contest.

Introducing the Judges Specialist

Marianne Benton (Oakestelle)

My life with collies started over 50 years ago, my parents had Rough Collies before I was born but I didn’t get into showing until I was 14. I remember having a blue merle Corydon bitch that I had limited success with, however I really found my niche in handling classes with her. I became a very successful handler and many exhibitors ringside would ask me to show their dogs.

My first successful dog was Tentola Treacle Tart of Oakaville of which I had many wins at champ shows, she had one litter that produced my CC winning Oakaville Macedoine.

My involvement with Smooth Collies came about 20 years ago when by chance I purchased a tri colour called Tentola Madam Butterfly who sadly didn’t like the show ring. But on my birthday back in 2009, a young blue merle was born. Her breeder, Isobel Griffiths, let me have Alopex Marionette of Oakestelle (aka Piper). This young lady has done me so proud in the ring and has gained two CCs and many RCCs. She is a multi Best in Show winner at club shows, and is still winning at 8 years old. She had one litter and produced my first Champion Oakestelle Vivaldi, and ticket winner Oakestelle Venus De Milo.

I changed my affix from Oakaville to Oakestelle mainly because of my Daughter Estelle who now has her own interest in the breed.

I have taught ringcraft and handling classes at my local club, been involved with the Smooth Collie Club of GB for a few years and am the current Club Secretary, I am also the Chairperson of Barking Canine Club.

I love the East Anglian Collie of the Year event and feel honoured to have been asked to judge it this year.
