FORSTER WATERSIDE RENEWAL PROJECT Improvements to the foreshore precinct Including: - Increased greenspace - Cycleway connection - Expanded Wallis Street Car Park - Streetscape improvements - Traffic calming devices - Safer ways to cross busy streets - Parking management system Public Exhibition Until 18 th March 2015 Opportunities Council has been able to acquire land to enable the expansion of the car park in Wallis Street, 250m away from the shopping precinct. This has allowed an opportunity to relocate car spaces away from Memorial Drive and increase greenspace along the foreshore precinct. This will allow for the extension of existing foreshore treatment along Memorial Drive towards Little Street. The proposal aims to give the foreshore back for people to enjoy, beautifies the surrounding landscape and provide for an improved foreshore area in the Forster Waterside precinct. What is being done? The proposal includes the creation of an expanded car park at Wallis Street for 60 spaced for people who drive and 4 for people who ride a motorbike. An improved pedestrian connection from the car park to the centre will be created with safer ways to cross busy streets, improvements to the streetscape, street trees and seating will be provide to create an improved precinct. Some short term parking will remain in Memorial Drive and Council is proposing to utilise Parking Management systems to increase parking turnover. Council is also proposing to increase opportunities for people who ride bicycles with increased bicycle parking and cycleway connections. Improvements will be made to the foreshore area, with an extension of the existing Memorial Drive plan to include priority for pedestrians, increased seating, tree planting and opportunities for public art. The amount of greenspace will be increased significantly.
