    FORMAT

What Would You Do?(WWYD) TV Game Show

    DESCRIPTION & NOTES

Each day during the Base Campopening time, the game show host presents the animal contestants (puppets)with a scenario featuring a problem of the day. Then the animal contestants are prompted to ask questions inorder to help them formulate their answers. Before the contestants reveal their answers, the VBS participantsare dismissed to their rotations. When everyone returns to Base Campat the closing of each day, the gameshow concludes with the contestantsanswers. During this time the game show host can involve the VBSparticipants by asking for their answers before revealing each contestants answers. Before the host reveals thewinner each night, the host can also ask the VBS participants what they think of the contestants answers.

The game show host is the relational key to making the connection between the VBS participants and thepuppets, as well as making the connection between the puppet show storyline and the VBS Bible lessons.

Leader- (Leader touches Georges head gently.)Thatsokay. Now time is up and we are ready tohear your answers. Lets start with you George.

George- Well, since I teach water aerobics andknow a lot about water, I think it is important to berealistic about what one can do. An Ostrich is notan animal that usually swims. If God wantedOstriches to swim he would have given them fins. They dont have fins, they have big feet. So I wouldsay Yes, you should quit. You are not meant toswim. You will never swim.

Leader- Is that your final answer?

George- Yes it is. Just trying to keep it real.

    Leader- Max?

Max- What I would do is give the Ostrich achallenge. I would tell him to get tough and just doit! Stop being such a baby. Youre a grown Ostrich.

Get over your inferiority complex and get it done!Stop acting like an Ostrich...dont they stick their

    heads in the ground?

    Leader- Sometimes.

Max- Enough of that stuff. Get going and swim.JUST SWIM. Now get out there and GET IT DONE!TOUGHEN UP! BE AN OSTRICH!

Leader- Wow. Is that your final answer?

Max - Yes it is! I cant wait to drive that jeep.

    Leader- Bubbles.

Bubbles- You said earlier that he was a really goodrunner.

    Leader- That is true.

    Bubbles- Thats important.

(The following dialogue needs to grow into an

    argument.)

Max- He wants to swim. Running has nothing to dowith it.

Bubbles- But hes good at it and everyone knows.

George- He was made to run.

Bubbles- If he has an inferiority complex then heneeds to know what he can do really well.

    Max- Inferiority complexes are silly.

George- So is the fear of blood, like you have.

Max- Thats different. I dont know why I amafraid.

George- Neither does the Ostrich. He just knowshe doesnt think he can do anything.

Max- He needs to believe in himself!

    Bubbles- He needs support!

Leader- Okay! Okay! Wow, you guys have verystrong opinions about this Ostrich. I think were

ready to get to the answers. So Bubbles, youranswer is?

Bubbles- If I had an inferiority complex and didntthink I could do most things If I REALLY wanted toswim and tried my best If I got to swim up to 10feet on my third tryThen I would want someoneto tell me Bubbles, you can do it. So I would tell

    Larry...

    Leader- Whos Larry?

Bubbles- The Ostrich. I named him. I would tellLarry You keep going. Try your best. Youll be able

to swim. Its going to take lots of work and its not

going to be easy. If you love to swim and if youwork hard then you will get it. KEEP GOING! YAHLARRY!!

Leader- Is that your final answer?

    Bubbles- Yes it is!

is that we lift each other up, encourage each other, and build each other up.

Bubbles- Youre right. Thats exactly what I wouldwant. To be encouraged.

Leader- (Hands Bubbles the keys.) Here you go.The Jeep is parked on this side of the building.

Leader- Okay guys this is the last question.

    Max- Do Lions eat Wildebeests?

    George- Lions eat everything.

Bubbles- Theyre like a garbage disposal. Theyll eatanything.

Leader- Not all of them. Right Max?

Max- I wouldnt eat a Wildebeest.

George and Bubbles- Of course you wouldnt.

Leader- Your vegetarian diet could be in your favor.Okay, those are all the questions you are allowed. Now its time to think over....

    Jos- Dont forget about me?!

    Leader- Right, we have a....visitor.

    Max- More like a crasher.

Leader- A visitor to our set. Jos the Lemur.

George- Dont you Lemurs like to jump.

Jos- Yup! (Singing)We like to move it move it.We like to move it, move it!

Leader- Okay Jos. Thank you for that entertainingmoment.

Bubbles- Jose could you go and wash my Jeep?

Jos- Oh, but I want to....

Bubbles- Jose you can come back when youre

    done.

Jos- (Grabs the keys.)OKAY! Be right back! (Heruns off.)

    Leader- Thank you Bubbles.

George- Lemurs are very excitable squirrels.

    Jos- (off stage)I heard that.

Leader- Lets start with you Bubbles. Your answer

    is.

Bubbles- Well, a nervous Wildebeest is a walkingtime bomb, so I would find a tranquilizing dart witha long piece of hollow bamboo. I would walk 50paces away from him (or her)and blow as much as Ican into the bamboo and have the dart hit him (orher)in the...backside. I would wait for the

tranquilizer to work (about 20 minutes)and thendrag the Wildebeest around the large mud pit tothe family.

Max- How do you know so much abouttranquilizing and darts?

Bubbles- Oh Max, I watch the Discovery Channel.

George- I was on the Discovery Channel once.(They all look at him)

    George- Just as an extra.

Leader- Okay Bubbles. Thank you for that...interesting way to lend a hand. George, how aboutyou?

George- Wildebeests and I have something incommon - We are HUGE fans of Rock and Rollmusic! Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones and JustinBeiber.

Max- I think Justin is more pop music.

George- Whatever, you have to stay current. Iwould do something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT thanwhat anyone would expect. I wouldnt bring the

nervous Wildebeest to the family, Id bring thefamily to him.

    Bubbles- Or her.

George- Okay. I would go to the other side of themud pit and start singing some musiclike (George starts to sing the tune of Rock Aroundthe Clock with his own lyrics)Hes over thereYoure over hereThe mud pits between all of you. Were gonna Rock around the Mu-ud pitRock around the dirty pitRock around the Mud Pit to the other side, do, do,

    do!

    Max- Oh boy.

George- They of course will follow and I will leadthem to the nervous Wildebeest so they can betogether.

Leader- Well that is very different.George- Thank you.

    Leader- And finally, you Max.

Max- To lend a hand to a nervous Wildebeest ischancy. It could go very badly. So I would help withthe nerves first by telling him I know Im a Lion but

Im a vegetarian. Then I would bring out the

    chocolate.

George- For you or the Wildebeest?

Max- The Wildebeest of course. I would give himthe chocolate, as he eats it I would drag woodenplanks to create a solid pathway over the mud forhim to walk on. Once the planks were set up I wouldshow him how to walk over them to the other side. Then I would walk back to him and reach out withmy paw to lead the way.

    Leader- What if he ...

    Bubbles- Or she.

    Leader- doesnt take your paw?

Max- I would keep talking to reassure that this canbe done and I would show with my paws and legshow to walk over the planks. We would do ittogether.

Leader- That is your final answer?

Max- It is what I would do.Leader- Well, clearly we all have different ways tolend a hand, but out of these three answers..... Maxyou are the winner today! (Lights and music.)

Max- I won?! I finally won?!

Leader- Yes. Lending a hand is best demonstratedby helping another accomplish something theycouldnt do themselves. And Max you clearly knowhow to do that.

    Max- ROAR!

Leader- (handing Max an envelope) Enjoy your 2years of ________ (insert local grocery store)produce.

Jos- I didnt touch it that time. (He puts his arms inthe air and walks backwards slowly.)

    George- Oh boy.

Leader- Maybe you should stay a little further back.

    Jos- Ill stay right here.

    George- Good.

Leader- Before we get to our contestants lets openthings up with you, the audience. What would youdo? (Kids and leaders raise hands and give theiranswers. Ad lib e.g. good answers, creative thinking,

    etc...)

    Leader- Lets start with George.

George- Since the Zebra is 100 miles away, I thinkthe best thing to do is talk with a flock of SpeckledPigeons. They are a very colorful African bird. Iwould ask them to start flying towards the Zebra...

Jos- You dont know where he is.

George- We must know what direction he took offinto - So I would ask the Speckled Pigeons to flytowards the Zebra and once they found him...

Bubbles- How are they going to know he is TheZebra? They all look alike from the sky.

George- I think he would be by himself since hedoesnt know any other Zebras there.

    Leader- Good point, George.

George- So once they find him they can fly to himand tell him to follow them back home. Hell beable to see them in the air because they are verycolorful.

    Bubbles- (Agreeing)Theyre speckled.

Leader- Thats an interesting solution. Letssee,Jos what is your answer?

Jos- I got this one. First I would hire a limousine, ahelicopter and a camera crew. The camera crewwould be in the helicopter and I would be in theback of the limo with air conditioning and ice waterfor the ride. We would drive until we found theZebra, and I would know which Zebra he wasbecause he would be upset.

    Leader- Good point.

Jos- (Dramatically)I would have the camera crewfilming from the air capturing the dry, rough, dustyland of Africa, of course keeping the Limo out of theshot, every once in a while I would get out to run, showing how I was looking for the Zebra. Thenthere would be a close up....

    George- Oh, boy.

Jos- The camera will be very tight on my face as I(he demonstrates as he speaks)would wipe thedirty sweat from my face and eyes...

George- Wheres the sweat come from?

Jos- I would spray myself down with a watersprayer then add a little dirt to it. They do that onTV all the time...The close up would be panic allover my face as I search desperately for the upset

    Zebra.

Bubbles- This is like a movie.

Jos- Exactly. Once we find the Zebra I will run tohim and hold him tight, let him know he is lovedand missed...

    George- All on camera?

Jos- Hello! Of course! Why else be there? I wouldtell him we must go now before we die in thisAfrican heat and all they find are our bones. Iwould get back into the limo and we would driveback home.

    Leader- And the Zebra?

Jos- He would run alongside the limo. (They alllook at him.)

Jos- What? Zebras are meant to run, not ride.

Leader- That is your final answer?

    Jos- Yup. LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!

Leader- A very dramatic rescue. And you, Bubbles?

Bubbles- The problem is the Zebra is so far away. How can anyone help him come home? So I decidedto call his cell phone.

Leader- How do you know he has a cell phone.

Bubbles- Everyone has a cell phone, especially

Zebras. They get on those family minutes and savelots of money. So, I would call his cell and starttalking to him so we could track the call and havethe Air Force find him.

    Leader- The Air Force?

Bubbles- My great Uncle Zac is one of the topleaders in the Air Force. He would help me out andwe would bring the Zebra home. (To Jos) ...in theplane, not running the whole way.

Leader- Very interesting answers, now lets seewho is going to win the New Apple iPad! Lights andmusic please! (Lights and music)The winner is...noone.

    Jos- Im supposed to win.

George- Your answer was the worst.

Leader- The answer was To pray for the Zebra.

    Bubbles- Pray?

Leader- Pray. God wants us to pray for each otherso that we may be healed.

George- The Zebra needs to be healed because hewas upset.

Leader- Thats right, George. And he was lost, sohe needed guidance to get going in the rightdirection. The Zebra was far away, so we couldnt

really get to him. He wanted to come home so weknew he felt bad about his actions. He needed toknow he was forgiven and to come back home.

Jos- I dont get the iPad?

George and Bubbles- NO JOS! Listen!

Leader- Prayer is powerful because God hears all ofour prayers, and we often dont think about praying

first...Why would we want to leave God out of thisscenario?

Bubbles- I never thought of praying.

    George- Neither did I.

Jos- I did. That was my second answer. (They alllook at him.)

    Jos- What?! Its true.
