    ADAM PAUL HELLER

  • gangster letters & modern orthodoxyAfter completing his bachelor’s degree in Studio and Fine Arts at the University of Vermont (1996),

Adam Paul Heller spent two, auspicious years of intensive study in the rural setting of the Benedictine

Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut. It was under the tutelage of Benedictine artist

Sr. Praxedes Baxter, mfa, osb that Adam first began carving letters in stone. With determined

conviction, Adam then apprenticed with Nicholas Benson at the John Stevens Shop where the

Benson family’s tradition of brush lettering and hand carving became his doctrine. Adam’s

flourishing carving practice, located in Norfolk, Connecticut, is dedicated to independent

projects, memorials, and collaborations with artists, architects, and designers.

Adam will discuss recent work with various illustrious collaborators and

the sometime widening fissure between tradition and immediacy.
