Vol II No: 461 10 September 2014 PRAYER At Mass on Saturday evening Father Chris shared the following quote with us: “The purpose of human existence is to be the place where God enters the world”. Thomas Merton What a wonderful way to understand our purpose in life and a motive for living this life that God has given us well! With this thought in mind we pray: Dear God of light, may we be surrounded by people who bring out the light within us, and who inspire us to make that light shine. We pray that, in sharing our gifts, others will witness our light and recognise its brilliance as being rooted in Jesus. May our works, actions and contributions help others come to know the power of Jesus’ love and lead all into a deeper relationship with him. Amen. PRAYER

At Mass on Saturday evening Father Chris shared the following quote with us:

“The purpose of human existence is to be the place where God enters the world”.

Thomas Merton

What a wonderful way to understand our purpose in life and a motive for living this life

that God has given us well! With this thought in mind we pray:

Dear God of light,

may we be surrounded by people who bring out the light within us, and who inspire us to

make that light shine. We pray that, in sharing our gifts, others will witness our light and

recognise its brilliance as being rooted in Jesus. May our works, actions and contributions

help others come to know the power of Jesus’ love and lead all into a deeper relationship

with him. Amen.

From the PRINCIPAL

This week is Child Protection Week and the theme is very simple, yet very important, “Protecting Children is Everyone’s Business – Play Your Part”. At The Cathedral College, we take our responsibility in protecting our students and ensuring their safety very seriously. We have five student protection contacts at the College, who have been trained in their roles and the students and staff are aware of these contacts. As a Boarding College, our responsibilities extend beyond normal school hours as we ensure a safe environment for 160 young people who live with us for a longer period. Earlier in the week, I e-mailed to you a guide to online safety which has many useful tips for students and parents. On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the Diocesan Student Protection Conference takes place and we will have a number of staff (including myself) attending. Next year, the Daniel Morcombe Curriculum will be taught to Years 7-9 as part of their schooling. This ensures all students receive the same message about their safety and tips on how to be safe. All students should now be preparing for exams and looking to finishing the Term very strongly. This will be the last Chronicle for Term III but I will keep you up to date with any news that develops in the next few weeks. Mr Rob Alexander

From the DEPUTY PRINCIPAL Fathers’ Day Mass: Thank you to all those who were able to join us to celebrate Fathers’ Day last Thursday. Opening Term 4 Liturgy: Our opening Liturgy for Term 4 will be held on Tuesday October 7 at 10.50am in St Joseph’s Cathedral. Families are, of course, always welcome at our Liturgies. Thursday Mass: All are invited to join us in the Day Chapel at St Joseph’s Cathedral at 8am this Thursday as Year 8 Gold and Year 9 Purple take responsibility for the ministries at Mass. Next week will be volunteers from Year 8. TCC/Parish Mass: Thank you to all the volunteers for ministries at the Mass last Saturday evening: musicians, readers, welcomers, Offertory Procession people and EMCs. Thank you also to all those who attended the Mass. Our last TCC/Parish Mass for the year is on October 25. National Police Remembrance Day: Representatives from TCC are invited to attend a National Police Remembrance Day Service to honour those Police Officers who have died in the course of their duties. The service is to be held at 10am on Friday 29 September at the Rockhampton Baptist Tabernacle on Norman Road North Rockhampton. Light refreshments are to be served at the conclusion of the service. Any students who would like to represent TCC at this special service are asked to contact Mrs Stitt before the term ends. Thank you. Prayers and blessings, Mrs Claire Stitt From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: STUDENTS Year 11 Leadership Retreat: All Year 11 students are reminded that their retreat permission forms are due back at the College by Friday 12 September. Parents/Carers are asked to ensure that this deadline is met. Mr Stephen Parle

From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: CURRICULUM End of Term Assessment: I wish all students the very best with their end of term assessment. It is vital students organise their time wisely over the next two weeks and make important sacrifices to ensure pleasing results. Year 12 Students: QTAC applications: Mrs MacRae presented key information pertaining to QTAC Applications to our Year 12 Students this morning. A reminder that applications should be in before the end of September. If you have any questions or concerns about the process please contact Mrs MacRae. Senior Exam Block: A final reminder that Year 11 and Year 12 students will commence their exam block this Friday. It is imperative all students are well prepared for their exams and ensure they arrive on time. If a student is unwell, it is important parents make contact with the College and provide a medical certificate as outlined in the Assessment Policy. The exam timetable can be found on the College website.

Assessment Calendars: Assessment Calendars can be found on the College website.

God Bless. Ms Karen Lester
