The major news this month is that we are about to farewell our General Manager, Barry Smith. Barry has been with Council for the past 22 years, has led many changes and been integral in our survival. Lisa Miscamble has accepted the challenge to take up the reins from Barry and we are looking forward to her joining us in September. Last newsletter we were wrapping up the Hunters Hill Art Show - a few weeks down the track and now the Moocooboola 2018 party is also done and dusted. We're now feeling nervous that Christmas might be just around the corner! Before you panic too much there are still plenty of events and activities to get involved in before you get lost in the tinsel box. As always we would welcome feedback and suggestions, please email us at [email protected] . Starting in October our Councillors and Council staff will be conducting the 2018Precinct Roadshow. There will be 5 precinct meetings run in 5 different locations,each designed for local residents and businesses to meet up and have aconversation. Farewell Barry Smith...Barry Smith, Hunter’s Hill Council’sGeneral Manager will retire from hisrole at the end of September after 22years of service to the municipality.Prior to accepting the GeneralManager position in 1996 Barry workedin senior management positions at TheHills Shire Council, Penrith City Counciland Hawkesbury Council.

Barry has held numerous boardpositions throughout his careerincluding his current role as a Directorwith Local Governments ProfessionalsNSW, Statecover Mutual and ViceChairman of the United Independent

Pools. In addition, Barry sits on the NSW Ministerial Advisory Group, which providesessential industry advice to the NSW State Government on all matters affecting localgovernment.

During the ‘Fit for the Future’ merger proposals Barry was instrumental in ensuringthat Hunter’s Hill Council remain independent and not merge with neighbouringcouncils. This would without doubt be Barry’s crowning achievement.

We will all miss Barry in Hunters Hill but wish him all the best in his well earnedretirement.

... and welcome Lisa MiscambleAfter a vigorous recruitment processLisa Miscamble has been appointed tothe role of General Manager of Hunter'sHill Council, commencing on Thursday,20 September 2018.

Lisa has a Master’s Degree in BusinessAdministration, a Bachelor’s Degree inEducation and a Diploma of Teaching.Further, she has a long list ofachievements which includes the NSWMinisters Award for Women in LocalGovernment Metropolitan and variousindustry awards.

Lisa has considerable experience inLocal Government and has held seniorpositions in a number of Councils

including Marrickville, Camden, Canada Bay and recently as the Director of CityLifestyles at Campbelltown City Council.

Come along to on of our Councillor Precinct Meetings for the opportunity to meetLisa in person.

Hunter’s Hill Council is preparing aCamp Management Plan for theTarban Creek Grey-headed Flying-foxcolony which will guide the futuremanagement of the colony.

Council has engaged EcologicalConsultants Australia Pty Ltd toprovide expert input into the Plan.

Community feedback will help Councildevelop the Camp Management Plan.Council is seeking community views onboth the impacts of the Flying-foxcolony and the outcomes people hopemanagement of the Flying-fox colonywill achieve.

Community Planting Day

Bring your family and friends along to help us with the next stage in restoring smallbird habitat in Betts Park, an important link in a habitat corridor along the lowerParramatta River.

Small native birds need suitable resting places between bushland areas in order tomove around safely. You can help them survive by planting native shrubs andgroundcovers that will become their protective habitat havens.

Please wear closed shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Tools and gloves will be provided.

October is Mental Health Awareness month so in partnership with Wayahead MentalHealth NSW, The Happy Hens are hosting a fun, family friendly event at Bedlam BayOval in The Old Gladesville Hospital, Campbell Drive, Gladesville.

There will be live music all day including Monica Trapaga and Big Band, food, artand craft sessions, yoga, massage, gardening, cooking - paddock to plate and sportoriented “rides”, with more to come.

Mental health providers such as Lifeline and Kids Helpline will supply informationand expert discussion throughout the day.
