States were “nudged” to adopt in order to apply for the federal Race to the Top (RTTT) grant program.

Most states adopted BEFORE the final standards were even written and reviewed.

Once adopted, states must utilize the consortium created national assessments that align to the common core standards.

States must adopt 100% of the new standards and may only add 15% of local standards.
