Hoover’s Search From within the CRM, users access all of Hoover’s data. Search Hoover’s database for:
1. Companies
2. People
3. Industries
Use keywords, names, titles, DUNS Numbers, industry codes or other terms to search Hoover’s database.
Looking for more detailed criteria to make your search? BAL (Build-A-List) provides 40+ criteria to allow you to build customized lists
of companies and people for use as accounts, leads or contacts.
Use Hoover’s Search to find individual results, use Build-A-List to develop targeted lists.

Hoover’s Build-A-List Hoover’s Build-A-List gives you the ability to
create customized lists of prospects using
highly detailed criteria. There are two flavors
of Hoover’s Build-A-List that are on different
tabs
1. BAL Companies – Using more than 50
criteria, you can select create prospect
lists of companies. Lists (see next
page) automatically use de-duplication
logic. Companies on these lists can be
imported directly to the CRM
individually or as a group. Example
criteria includes:
Company Location
Company Size
Industry
Company Type
Financial Data.
2. BAL People – Allows you to build lists
using all the same company criteria,
but adds criteria specific to people,
including:
Job Title
Job function
Salary Range
Age

Hoover’s List Results Whether searching, building lists or
showing lists of competitors or contacts,
Access Hoover’s displays all lists in the
same fashion:
A check box – Use this to select
the record to add.
Duplicate flag(s)
The record name with a link to
the Hoover’s record, whether a
person, company or industry
record
Additional information on the
record such as: name, location,
DUNS Number, revenue for
companies and name and title for
contacts
Duplicate Flags When Duplicate Checking is turned on,
Access Hoover’s automatically flags
duplicate Leads, Accounts and Contacts.
Companies can be either Leads or
Accounts.
People may be either Leads or Contacts.
ConnectMail Flags When a person has ConnectMail direct
contact information available, there will
be a ConnectMail icon (see right)

Competitors Select Competitors to see a list of top competitors for this company based on Hoover’s
industry criteria. Competitors already in the CRM will be flagged as duplicates.
Family Tree View a complete list of this company’s subsidiaries and parents in a hierarchical Family
Tree structure. Companies already in the CRM will be flagged as duplicates.
Financial Details Select these options to view comparative financial data on this company.
More Hoover’s Data Links to Hoover’s Company website to access additional content like financials, fact
sheets and competitive landscapes. Note: Requires a Hoover’s Online Subscription.
My Tools
Update Record Click here to update the record. You will be able to select the fields you would like to update
from the “Stare and Compare” screen (see below). The data update goes directly into the
CRM record.
Add Industries Use this option to attach industries to the account record or review industry information on
the company. This option provides access to First Research industry content within the CRM.
Schedule Update Schedule an automatic update for this record. You may choose which fields to automatically
update and the timing of the update.
Remove Hoover’s Link Remove the link between this record and a Hoover’s record.
Add Contacts Search for people at this company and add the results as contacts individually or in groups.
Detects and flags duplicates if the duplicate logic is turned on.

Manage Triggers Create and manage triggers that have been setup on news and events.
Scheduled Downloads View a list of scheduled background downloads, including Build-a-list imports.
Scheduled Updates Review and manage scheduled all scheduled automatic updates.

Hoover’s Admin
Field Mapping To get the most benefit from Access Hoover’s,
Hoover’s data should be mapped to CRM fields
in the Accounts, Leads or Contacts. Use these
tools to map Hoover’s data to individual fields.
There are out-of-the-box defaults for mappings
Note: Make sure when mapping fields that the
field can handle the type and format.
Industry Value Mapping Hoover’s industry codes and data can be
mapped to fields. This mapping is optional and
works similarly to the Field Mapping.
Reset Field Mappings Hoover’s default field mappings can be
reinstated using these links.
Configuration Options Advanced Configuration options can be
accessed through this menu. Options include:
Enabling/Disabling Duplicate
Checking
Changing the default search type for
Lead updates to People or
Companies.

ConnectMail
What is ConnectMail? ConnectMail is Hoover’s brand for direct contact information for key decision makers
in business. ConnectMail typically provides direct email address and/or direct phone
number.
Field Mapping ConnectMail requires the mapping of two unique fields: ConnectMail Email address
and ConnectMail phone number. These fields will only be populated when there is
ConnectMail direct contact available for the contact and the ConnectMail contact
information was purchased.
Note: Make sure when mapping fields that the field can handle the type and format.
How to Use ConnectMail are used to purchase ConnectMail contacts. Talk with the CRM
administrator of Hoover’s account representative to purchase ConnectMail credits.
Where is ConnectMail available? ConnectMail is available for many people records. People can be used as Contacts or
Leads in most CRM systems. Just look for the ConnectMail icon

Troubleshooting
I don’t seem to have access to all of the tabs and features mentioned in this document. How do I get
these features turned on?
With the rollout of advanced access controls, your CRM administrator has control over what features
you may access. Please contact your CRM administrator to obtain access to those features.
I get an error when I try to update a record. What is going on?
Please check to ensure that all fields to which you have Hoover’s data mapped exist and do not have any
rules which would prohibit Access Hoover’s from updating the field.
I deleted a record from the CRM. What can I do?
Any information specific to that record will be lost, however it is simple to retrieve the Hoover’s
information associated with that record. Check with your CRM Admin to see if there is any way to
recover the lost record. To restart the record, simply do a Hoover’s search and import the Hoover’s
company or people information as the preferred record type.
What is ConnectMail and how does ConnectMail work?
I purchased ConnectMail contacts but cannot find the direct email or phone number?
Your Admin must map the ConnectMail fields. These fields are different from the other phone number
and email address fields so must be mapped by the Admin. Once mapped, the Contact must be updated
with Hoover’s to populate the proper fields; however, there will not be an additional deduction of
ConnectMail credits for previously purchased Contacts.
How do I get technical support for Access Hoover’s?

FAQ
How often does Hoover’s update Access Hoover’s? How will I be notified?
Hoover’s periodically updates the functionality of Access Hoover’s, typically no more than once a month.
For most versions of Access Hoover’s this update is automatic for versions installed on “on demand”
CRMs. When an update is available or about to be released, Hoover’s will post information on
http://crm.hoovers.com as well as send a message to the mailbox within Access Hoover’s called “My
Messages”

When Access Hoover’s is updated, what do I need to do to take advantage of the new features?
In most cases, Access Hoover’s features are updated automatically when Hoover’s releases an update,
you need to do nothing to update. However, on some “On Premise” solutions, you must download and
install the latest update to take advantage of new features.
