Exercises - Starting 1354 RM-PhM

Make sure services are started (apache ftp, MySQL, PhM…)

1. Start the 1354 RM-PhM application on your PC.

2. Click the “Change Server/Port”

3. Enter the IP address of your PC(localhost) in the Server, or the server

provided for Management.

User name and Password: If this is your first time logging in, the User

name is admin and Password is tropxnms. You will then be required to

change the password. (exple:tr0pxnms)

Exercises - Establish connection to the network

This procedure will establish connection to the network and discover all the

network elements.

Refer to your 1830 PSS-32/16 Installation Guide, Part IV, Chapter 10, and perform

“Establish connection to the network” procedure.

Connect the Line Fiber to the NE’s of the Network

Connect the craft terminal to CIT port of the EC board

1. Change the CIT IP address to a unique subnet within the entire DCN

2. Start the 1354 RM-PhM

3. select Maintenance /Auto Discovery/ “Auto Discovery by IP”

4. Select File /New NE/ create network element with CIT IP address

Additional network elements will being appearing in the map view.

Connecting local 1354 RM-PhM throughout the Network via CIT port

While connecting through the CIT port of the EC board, the CIT IP address should be modify so as to be able to reach the next NEs in the network. The purpose is to change the CIT IP address on which you are connected to a unique subnet within the entire DCN. In CLI type: config interface ec cit ip 172.16.2.1/24 Re-connect to CLI: config int ec cit red enable

You are then able to establish connection with all NE of the Network.

OK

At the end of the operation on this NE, you may change the CIT IP address back to its default (172.16.0.1)

However, during the deployment process, you may be willing to connect your local 1354 RM-PhM to another site. You may then perform the same steps and meet this configuration.

The 1354 RM-PhM has already allocated the CIT address to NE1 in its database and it will encounter a conflict.

Hence it is recommended, during the time of the deployment, to modify the CIT IP address of every NE of the network by defining a unique subnet for every NE, as shown:

You will then be able to connect you local 1354 RM-PhM to any site.

Exercises - Connect outside plant fiber

This procedure will connect the outside plant fiber to the ingress and

egress LD circuit packs on the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-32/PSS-16. The

fiber loss will be checked and proper connectivity verified. Refer to your 1830 PSS-32/16 Installation Guide, Part ///, Chapter 9, and perform

“Connect outside plant fiber” procedure.

1. Connect the outside plant fibers to the appropriate LINE ports

2. From WebUi, select the OSC port of an LD pack facing a line that has been

connected at the neighbor node

3. Select: Performance / Clear bins

4. Select: Performance / PM Group / OPT

5. Select: Performance / PM Group / OPR

6. Repeat for each of the lines as they are connected to the neighbor nodes.

7. Calculate the span loss. These values should be provided to the EPT owner to

compare with the EPT span loss

Preconditioning

This procedure will ensure that the network and PC are ready for commissioning

using the 1354 RM-PhM.

1. Ensure that all the outside plant fibers (or test set) have been properly

connected to the correct line driver cards on each network element.

2. Verify one pair of OT cards is installed and fibered on the end terminals for a

TOADM system.

3. Obtain the loop back IP addresses of all the NE’s in the network.

4. Determine which NE in the network will be used as the connection

commissioning process, as directed by your instructor. Obtain the OAMP port

IP address.

5. Obtain the xml commissioning file produced by EPT and used for

commissioning.

6. Ensure that both the client and server 1354 RM-PhM software has been

installed on the PC. Refer to the 1354 RM-PhM Photonic Manager EMS

Reference Guide for detailed procedures on installing and configuring the

software.

Exercises - Provision the system

This procedure will provision the cards, power attributes and topological links for all the NE’s in a system as defined in the EPT output file.

Refer to your 1830 PSS-32/16 Installation Guide, Part IV, Chapter 10, and perform “Provision the system” procedure.

1. From PhM / Provision -> Launch CPB

2. Type the 1354 RM-PhM user name and password

3. Select Commissioning -> Provision System (using plan)

4. Select NE (one or several)

5. Next/Next/ then “Browse” button and browse to the folder containing the EPT commissioning file for the system to be commissioned

Review the error report and troubleshoot any problems encountered.

Commission a TOADM Linear System

The auto managed lines on a linear system adjacent to the terminal sites as well as the terminal sites themselves will not complete using the commissioning wizard. Those lines must have further power adjustments to complete commissioning.

Identify the two terminal nodes and their immediate neighbors in the linear system. These four nodes have lines that will need power adjustments.

A service must be created to complete the commissioning on these nodes

Use this procedure to establish a new wavelength service.

13. Highlight both Nodes that are end points for the new Wavelength Service and then go to Provisioning and Provision New Wavelength Service.

14. Enter all of the necessary information for the new wavelength service and create it.

15. Check Force cross-connection

16. Verify both A to Z and Z to A directions of the circuit through Wave Tracker and enable the 10 second auto refresh function.

17. When both directions are all green, a test set can be setup at one client port end and a fiber loop at the other client port end to perform the Error Free Testing – observe optical TX and RX levels and install attenuators as needed.

18. Capture the test results from the test set as proof of the Error Free Tests.

Failed Adjustment (Examples)

Refer to your 1830 PSS-32/16 Installation Guide, Part IV, Chapter 10, and review the sample loss report “Troubleshooting failed Adjustment”.

no through services provisioned: 1. Provision at least one present wavelength on the through path.

2. Re-try adjustment.

loss too high (ingress adjustment) 1. Identify the source of the excess loss using the loss report

2. If the span loss is too high, perform the following sub steps and re-try the adjustment after each step. If not, go to Step 8.

3. Clean the fiber connection between the patch panel and the LD Line In port.

4. Perform an in-service adjustment from the PhM light path trace power management interface.

5. If the Loss too high error remains, check the loss on the affected segment and if the span loss is too high field personnel will need to try to correct the span loss.

6. If the Loss too high error remains, clean the fiber connection between the patch panel and the LD Line Out port of the upstream network element.

7. If the span loss cannot be reduced to meet the planned limit, then a re-plan of the system will be required using the EPT.

8. If the message is generated during ASE commissioning, re-run the commissioning wizard.

9. If the message is generated as a result of an in-service power adjustment, perform a power adjustment on the affected span using the PhM, CLI, or WebUI.

Exercises - Perform database backups with PhM

Database backups are performed using TFTP server, which is provided with the 1354 RMPhM Photonic Manager Refer to your 1830 PSS-32/16 Installation Guide, Part IV, Chapter 12, and review

the sample loss report “Perform database backups” procedures. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1354 RM-PhM Photonic Manager EMS Reference Guide

for more information.

1. From Phm: Admin /Settings /System Settings /File Transfer 2. TFTP Root Directory : Verify the root directory is /tftpfiles 3. select FTP & Remove Prefix 4. Select the NE you want to backup 5. Maintenance / NE Database Backup & Restore 6. Right click on the NE / select “Details...” 7. check “Use the EMS Server as Backup host recommended” and “Use default

backup directory recommended”. 8. click on the Backup
