Applications are called for a Ten days National “Research Methodology Course for M.Phil /

Ph.D./ PDF Scholars in Social Sciences" being organised by Department of Economics,

Osmania University, Hyderabad from 18th to 28th March, 2019. The last date for the

submission of duly filled in application is 11th March, 2019 (Monday). The candidates who are

interested to participate may download the application form from Osmania University Website

i.e., www.osmania.ac.in

Eligibility:

1. The Social Sciences Research Scholars pursuing their M.Phil / Ph.D. from recognized Universities/Institutions from all over India are eligible to apply for this workshop.

2. Preference will be given to the Research Scholars who are registered for their M.Phil / Ph.D. from the 2015-16 Academic year onwards. The Applicants need to enclose the M.Phil / Ph.D. Joining Report along with the Application.

3. Those who have attended Research Methodology Course earlier are not eligible to apply for this course.

Interested M.Phil / Ph.D./ PDF Scholars in Social Sciences are requested send the registration form through the proper channel to the Course Director both in hard and soft copies.Hard copy of the application should be addressed to Prof.J.Narasimha Rao, Course Director, Department of Economics, Osmania University, Hyderabad-500 007Soft copy of the applications should be mailed to [email protected] Registration Fee: There is no registration fee for the courseAccommodation: Accommodation to outstation participants Travel Allowances: Travel allowance by shortest distance ( Train Second Class sleeper Fare ) will be reimbursed to the out station participants after the submission of original tickets.Certificate of Participants: It is mandatory for the participants to attend all the sessions of the course. Other Information:

1. The Maximum intake for the Course shall be 20 seats (10 for out station and 10 for

local).

2. An Evaluation Test based on the topics covered in the course will be conducted

towards end of the Course.

3. Attendance for all the sessions is compulsory or otherwise the certificate shall not be issued.

4. The Selected Candidates are required to bring their own personal laptop for the purpose of Hands-on-Experience on SPSS Software.

5. The aspects like representation of different Social Science Disciplines, Social Background, Gender, etc. shall also be taken into consideration while selecting the Candidates.

6. The applicants need to send the duly filled scanned copy of the application to email [email protected] as an advance copy. Besides this, the applicants are also need to send the hard copy of the application along with requisite documents through the register/speed post so as to reach our office on or before the last date (i.e., 11th March, 2019).

7. The Selected Outstation candidates will be provided with free accommodation and food during the Course period. The Outstation participants will be paid an amount of Rs. 1000 or actual fare whichever is lower towards the travel charges for attending the course.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

Economics has been taught at the Osmania University from its very inception in 1918. It was initially taught as a part of the History and a separate Department of Economics existed only for administrative purposes. In 1935 a full-fledged Department of Economics was established and comprehensive courses in the subject were formulated. Since then, Economics came to be offered as a major subject at the undergraduate level in the University.

Prof. Ilyas Burney, first Head. The M.A. Course in Economics was started in 1937 with the efforts of Prof.Habibur Rehman and Dr.Anwar Iqbal Qureshi.The Department gained stature during the tenure of Prof.Gautam Mathur when he took over as the Head in 1965. Under his stewardship, the Department scaled new heights and grew into a strong Centre for Development Economics and Economic Planning. The UGC sanctioned Special Assistance Programme (SAP) to the Department under his headship in 1972. Subsequently, the Department was selected for the University Leadership Programme (ULP) to prepare text material for the undergraduate courses.

The Department had reputed economists on its rolls. Some of them include Dr. R.J. Chelliah, Former Member, Planning Commission, Prof.N.S.Iyengar, renowned Econometrician, Dr.Ali Mohammed Khusro, Chairman, XI Finance Commission, Dr.CH.Hanumantha Rao, former Member, Planning Commission, and Dr.Balwanth Reddy, former Principal, Administrative Staff College of India.

The Department has a very active research programme with Economics of Development and Planning as its thrust area. It has a team of 09 internal and 25 retired and external research supervisors. The faculty members have entered into academic contact with CESS, World Bank, Woolongong (Australia), IOWA, Boston (USA), and Indian Ocean Rim, Association for Regional Cooperation, Mauritius. The thrust area of the Department is Development, Inclusive Growth in Agriculture.

The Department was also identified as one of the consultant groups for preparing the State Development Report of Andhra Pradesh by Planning Commission in the year 2009-11.
