BFSWC Members are also enjoying the opportunity to

share their literary experiences at

the once-a-month Book Club Meeting

on the last Tuesday of each month.

During the meetings, participants

Two of the books previously reviewed were “The John Carlos

Whitehead. During the Book Club meeting on Tuesday, July

31st, the participants discussed the book “Growing Up and Out

additions to the monthly schedule of activities at the Bernice Fonteneau Senior Wellness

Center. These activities allow BFSWC members the opportunity for self-expression,

creativity and to gain knowledge.

Thanks to a grant provided by the ANC-1A and the volunteer

August Calendar - Subject to Change

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) interns, Irene

Paradas (l), a rising senior, and Iris Hernandez (r), a rising junior

at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School began their assignment

with the BFSWC on July 2, 2012. They have spent their time

assisting with various center health and fitness programs,

administrative tasks, and engaging members in games and

activities. They have been very helpful, courteous, and reliable.

After becoming quite aware of the general routines around the

center, they have taken the initiative to step in and do what

was needed without having to be asked. When the program

ends on August 2nd, we won’t be saying goodbye because Irene

and Iris are participants in Mary Center’s Teen Program. So

until we see them again, we hope that they continue to be

successful in all of their endeavors….especially in their

schoolwork!
