FFVs on the Road TodayThere are more than 16 mil-lion FFVs on the roads today: including compacts, sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs. American automakers are currently producing 50% of all new vehicles model year 2012 and beyond flex-fuel capable.

Before you fill your tank with a flex-fuel blend, make sure you have a FFV.

Finding an ethanol blendThere are approximately 3,200 retail stations offering these ethanol blends across the country. There’s probably one closer than you realize. Visit our website to find the station nearest you. You can also use your Garmin or TomTom GPS system, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, or Android smartphone.

If you don’t own a FFV, you should consider one when you purchase your next vehicle. However, you can still use ethanol. You can use E10 in all vehicles and E15 in all vehicles model year 2001 and newer.

What is a flex-fuel vehicle?Flex-fuel vehicles, commonly called FFVs, are cars engineered to run on any ethanol/gasoline blend. FFVs allow the drivers, when available, to choose their fuel blend such as E20, E30, E50 up to E85. Drivers choose higher blends for a number of different reasons: price, cleaner burning fuel, and to support American jobs and American-made products.

Ethanol increases horsepower and octane.

Ethanol reduces engine knocking and pinging.

Ethanol helps keep your engine clean by reducing fuel injection system build up.

Ethanol helps prevent gas line freeze in the winter.

Ethanol burns cleaner, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 50%. American Ethanol sup-ports over 386,500 jobs across the economy, jobs that cannot be outsourced.

American Ethanol increases our country’s energy independence and strengthens our economic and national security by keeping American dollars at home rather than sending them to oil-rich countries in the Middle East and elsewhere around the globe.

To verify if a Mercedes vehicle is a FFV: The fuel filler cap should be black with a yellow outer ring and there should be a label on the inside of the fuel filler door indicating “premium gasoline/min 91 Octane or E85 only”. On the Vehicle Emission Control Information label, located under the hood, the fuel type should be “Gasoline/Ethanol” and indicate “FFV”. Or obtain the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact the MBUSA Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372).
