HOURS OF SERVICE (HOS)• ‘Hours of Service’ are regulations governing the working hours of
most commercial drivers in the US or Canada
• HOS limits the number of daily and weekly hours spent driving and working, and regulate the minimum amount of time drivers must spend resting in-between
• Drivers are required to keep records of driving and working hours using a paper or electronic logbook
• Main purpose of the HOS regulations is to prevent accidents caused by driver fatigue
• Typically apply to interstate, intrastate and inter-province movement of commercial goods
• Rules vary by country, state/province and industry; there are daily and weekly limits
