Running gsettings list-recursively|grep settings-daemon spat out
that:
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power active falseIn
terminal,
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power active
true... logged out and back in and I was good.
This was a fresh install from ISO of 12.04, so for those of you
seeing two icons, you might want to set "....plugins.power active
false" and see if one goes away.
