Imagine you see a really cool speech. Say delivered by Tony Robbins orBarack Obama. You feel as if the speaker has a magic wand.

This is far from the truth. Any speech that is seems to strike a chord iscarefully crafted and rehearsed most of the times.

Some people give really good presentations without much lead-time.Even in that case, they are able to do so because they must bebreathing the topic in and out.

It is a complete myth that any good speaker is a born with talent. Rarely,you might find such cases.

But the reality is you; I or anyone willing to put the work to becomegood at the skill of Public Speaking will seem like a born speaker.

Are you an extrovert? Let me ask you this? Are you good at PublicSpeaking?

On the contrary, are you an introvert? Are you limiting yourself fromtaking action to get good at Public Speaking?

It is a myth that people who are outspoken or extroverts in one on onecommunication end up being good at Public Speaking.

You see at the end of the day, definition of Public Speaking is nothingbut ‘amplified conversations’.

This seems to point out that if you are outgoing one on one, you shouldbe good one to many as well.

When you are on stage, our body, mind and behavior dynamics change.We are wired to believe that there is some danger when you are aloneand there are too many people facing you. It is just natural.

The reality isThe reality is: Whether you are an extrovert or an introvert, it takes adifferent set of skills to get good at Public speaking.

Have you seen someone who had everyone’s attention because of high-end vocabulary?

And you were like "this is amazing" but never able to follow what theywere saying?

Let me share something really cool. When you are speaking on stage,how many chances will the audience get to listen to you?

Don’t think too much. "You only get one chance."

If it is a video like this – you can always rewind and see what I said. Butin real time public speaking, there is only one chance.

Doesn’t it make sense to use simple language, which is easy for theaudience to follow? Yes, it makes complete sense.

Having a strong vocabulary is a good thing. In fact, it is a really coolthing.

The reality is:The reality is: When speaking on stage, it is imperative to use simplewords, which convey the right meaning of what you want tocommunicate.

You need a lot of years.You need a lot of years.

Have you heard about ‘10000’-hour rule? It was made famous in theMalcolm Gladwell book ‘Outliers.’

Well, there is truth to that statement. However, you are not going tolearn this skill by just winging it.

There are different skills related to body language, voice modulation,overcoming mental blocks, strategies to connect with the audience,etc.

The more conscious you are about developing this skill, the sooneryou’ll learn the skill.

You should relax to overcome the nervousnessYou should relax to overcome the nervousness

Probably this is the biggest myth.

You know what?

Every body that goes to the stage is nervous. If somebody tells you torelax to overcome your nervous, what happens?

You become more nervous.You become more nervous.

But you know what is the reality?

You need to get excited before taking the stage.You need to get excited before taking the stage.

Every time, I consciously got excited, I gave a better presentation.

Once you get excited, you’ll be able to channelize this nervous potentialenergy into kinetic energy for speaking. Sorry for getting into physics.Probably, that’s the worst analogy you might have ever heard.

But, hey the next time you want to overcome nervousness, get excitedinstead of getting relaxed.
