Optimized fistula closure

Application

New technique for a more effective fistula closure with the OTSC® clip by

primary superficial incision of the mucosa at the fistula opening

The OTSC® System is already used routinely for the treatment of fi stulas and achieves very good results.

However, in case of fi brotic tissue, clip application and therefore closure of the fi stula tract may be impeded.

For the treatment of otherwise refractory fi stulas, a new fi stula closure technique consisting of primary

superfi cial incision of the mucosa and subsequent OTSC application is available. This procedure offers

convincing advantages:

• Reduced tissue tension around the fi stula opening

• More effective tissue compression at the fi stula opening and the underlying fi stula tract

• Scoring the fi stula opening through incision creates a fresh lesion, which can potentially

promote healing

*The incision must not be too deep, because it bears the risk of perforation!
