Their music is joy personified. With stunning vocal prowess, a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock captures the complex sounds of blues, spirituals, gospels, African chants, and jazz improvisation. Originally produced in 1936, the classic You Can’t Take It With You was written during the Great Depression, an era when thousands of Americans had lost their jobs and stock in the market wasn’t worth much. A common-sense tribute to kindness, courage, and human goodness, this play will warm your heart as it lovingly calls us all to be better than we think we can be.

Based on the children’s book, a witch and her cat are flying happily on their broomstick – until a stormy wind blows away the witch’s hat, bow and wand. the Actors’ Gang presents

the trial of the Catonsville nineHistory comes alive as The Actors’ Gang examines the 1968 trial of two Catholic priests and seven fellow Catholic activists who committed an act of civil disobedience in protest of the war in Vietnam. This act of civil dissent galvanized the national protest movement. While condemned as criminals in a court of law, they were hailed as patriots in the streets during one of America’s most turbulent eras.

Acclaimed author Louise Erdrich will present a thought-provoking evening centering on her work, the importance of creativity in our lives and its vital place in our communities. Erdrich’s novels, including Love Medicine, The Beet Queen, and The Master Butchers Singing Club, frequently explore themes of cultural identity and the intersection of Ojibwa and European cultures.

step Afrika!Step Afrika’s intricate kicks, stomps, and rhythms pound the floor and fill the air in high-energy performances that celebrate stepping, a unique dance tradition that grew out of African American fraternities. DanúA Christmas in ireland: An nollaig in ÉirinnPub talk: The Importance of Pubs to Traditional Irish MusicSunday, December 6, 4:30-5:30 p.m. in O’Connell’s Coffeehouse, CSBIrish pubs have played a very important role in the growth and strength of traditional Irish music but there have been many changes to this scene in recent years. Danú’s Benny McCarthy will lead this discussion, which is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required due to limited seating.

Pub Grub DinnerSunday, December 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in O’Connell’s Coffeehouse, CSBO’Connell’s Coffeehouse becomes our own Irish pub, complete with Fish & Chips and Bangors & Mash. A cash bar featuring Irish beer, coffee and soft drinks will be available; dinner participants have priority-seating for the Pub Talk. Dinner is $11 per person and pre-registration is required. Can’t attend the pre-performance activities? Stay in the theater following the performance for a Q&A session with Danú.
