Finding NemoFinding NemoFinding NemoFinding Nemo Finding Nemo is a movie about the

adventures of a young fish. It was Nemo’s

first day of school. The students at the school went on a field trip to a place

called “the drop-off.” Watch the video clip and then answer the questions

aloud with a partner using past tense modals.

Partner A: What did Nemo have to do?

Partner B: He had to stay close to the teacher.

What were the students supposed to do?

What should the teacher have done when they arrived at the drop-off?

What should the students have done during the field trip?

What shouldn’t the students have done during the field trip?

What could have happened when Nemo swam into the deep water, away

from the drop-off?

What could Nemo have done when his father embarrassed him?

Now answer these questions in writing.

Write a different ending to the scene. What could have happened if Nemo

hadn’t swum to the boat? Or if Nemo’s dad hadn’t been afraid? Or if the

diver hadn’t taken Nemo? Use past tense modals and other past tense verbs

to present different possibilities for the end of this scene.
