Each map is mobile-friendly and provides a great way to see a new slice of Cambridge. From public art to historic landmarks to community gardens, GIS maps are designed to help keep you connected to your community. Simply visit cambridgema.gov/gis! Here are some of our favorites: 1) Artist-Designed Bike Racks As bicycling becomes a more popular form of transportation in Cambridge, the need for bike racks is ever increasing. Five artists were selected from the Cambridge Arts Council Artist Registry to design new bike racks for the City. Find all their bike racks with this interactive map! gis.camb.ma/ArtistBikeRacks 2) Sidewalk Poetry Cambridge Sidewalk Poetry integrates infrastructure repair with the poetry of the people, made possible through a collaboration of the community and an inter-departmental partnership of Cambridge Arts, Public Works, and the Public Library. Find every poem printed on our sidewalks with this tour. gis.camb.ma/SidewalkPoetry 3) North Point Walking Tour The Cambridge Pedestrian Committee works to create a more comfortable, safe, and pleasant environment for walking in Cambridge. It created this 2.5-mile walking tour of North Point in order to encourage more pedestrians to take advantage of this hidden gem. gis.camb.ma/NorthPointWalkingTour 4) Historic Landmarks Find every historic landmark in the city designated by the Cambridge Historical Commission with this interactive map. gis.camb.ma/HistoricLandmarks 5) Handsome Harry Hanson Follow the Handsome Harry Hanson Tour and learn about the exciting exploits of this former Cambridge resident and career railway man, as recorded in his calendar entries between 1891 and 1919. Imagine Harvard Square in his day, with the bustle of the horse cars, followed by the electrified street car system and then the subway. Learn how the popularization of the modern bicycle enhanced his recreational time and his romantic life.
