Adult Sunday School

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching

them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20

Whether you have been a Christian for 5 minutes or 50 years, we all still have room to learn and grow in faith. Since the beginning of our faith, Christians have gathered in small groups to study the Word, share in their life experience, and grow together to a stronger faith. Jesus organized a small group of 12 disciples. John Wesley formed the Methodist movement around classes and bands. We, too, organize around groups intended to help us all grow in faith. We are all on a journey of faith. We invite you to join us on this journey as we all discover how to live into the faith that sustains life. If you would like more information on groups, or help in discovering the right group for you, please contact the church office or Pastor Jonathan.

OneFundsEach year we have five fundraisers we refer to as our “OneFunds”.At the OneFunds we have a meal and we have the students talk about how Lakeside and other various trips have impacted their life. Congregation members can feel free to make donations to our youth program at these events. Beginning now, to be eligible to attend Lakeside students must participate in 2 of the 4 OneFunds in the year. Then, the 5th OneFund, which is a garage sale in June, will be mandatory. Our church is extremely giving and we appreciate all they contribute to our youth program. OneFunds are a way for us to say thank you to our congregation for all of their support, and to show them what we have done and learned in the past year.

Here are the dates for the 2016-2017 OneFunds:1. September 18th2. November day TBD3. February day TBD4. April 16th-Sonrise Easter breakfast5. June 2nd- Last OneFund, garage sale-mandatory

Winter JamWinter Jam is an evening filled with live concert music performed by the top bands in contemporary Christian music. It revolves around the center message of encouraging believers in their personal walks in faith, and also for believers to share the love of Christ to those who do not yet know Christ. Date for this year’s Winter Jam is TBD.

Lakeside for Youth CampThis is a week long camp located in Lakeside, OH. This isn’t your typical summer camp. We stay in a big house. This is a week fun of spiritual fun! The week is packed with worshiping God in a variety of ways. There is praise and worship in the mornings followed by a morning message delivered by the camp’s chaplain. The same chaplain gives the message every day. The camp is also focused on giving to a mission project and the past five years the mission has been focused on Camp Sierra Linda in Monterrey, Mexico. The students get to learn about mission work and what it looks like to follow God when he calls us to spread His word. Each evening there is a concert performed by the camp’s Christian band and following that is an evening program. The programs have varied from Christian poets to Christian magicians and one night there is a dance. Lakeside is a lot of fun, but it also is focused around strengthening our faith and becoming followers of Christ. It also builds unity among our youth group.

RetreatsEach year we take a retreat with our youth. The location for this year’s retreat is still to be determined. The goal of the retreat is to escape from our busy lives and to have a spiritual getaway in a camp setting. At the retreat we will have morning devotions, a chaplain to give us a message, and evening devotions and worship. We will also play a variety of different games as a youth group.

Video Scavenger HuntThis is a fun activity we do in the fall. We split the students into teams and put an adult with each group. Each group gets a video camera and the list of scavenger hunt items and then we meet after about an hour and each group shows their video and the judges choose the winner. The winner wins the notorious doll head, and bragging rights for the year to come.

MissionsOur youth group has done a few mission projects in the community as well. We painted the inside of Neighborhood Opportunity Center (NOC) (a local food pantry) in July as well as had a canned food drive for the NOC as well. We will be planning a short, local mission trip in Ohio for next summer. Stay tuned!!

If you have any questions about any opportunities for our students please feel free to contact our Director of Youth and Family Ministries, Jacquelyn Stalder.
