1 End of Summer Countdown: 15 Summer To Do’s For August By Sara Hanna (South Hall RA) It’s officially almost August, the month where everyone seems to realize in a collective stress-bomb – that summer is almost puttering to an end. I don’t know what happens to June and July, they get shoved into summer’s trunk like a murder mystery and I always want to make the most of my August once it rolls around. So here you go, 15 summer to do’s. 1. Never apologize for accidentally checking out the construction workers on your way to work or class in the morning. What? They’re tan, wearing hard hats and their veins are popping out, how was I suppose to know he’s forty? 2. Go into a movie by yourself. And smuggle whatever you can in the biggest purse you own. You are a frugal, stealthy and independent woman. 3. Pop for a Venti iced drink from Starbucks at least three times a week. 4. Make out dramatically in a summer rainstorm. 5. Buy a dumb straw hat that doesn’t match any of your outfits, that you will only wear once or never. 6. Sign up for a month of yoga classes. Go once. 7. Almost flip your sh*t if you see an ice cream truck, sprint after it. 8. Find a body of water and sit next to it with a Blue Moon. 9. Have a water balloon fight, even if it hurts when the balloons hit you and don’t break. 10. Paint your toenails hot pink with white polka dots. 11. Go to the zoo and eat churros or cotton candy and have staring contests with the gorillas. 12. Get caught at a stoplight in your car singing to a passionate and ball- busting song. 13. Go to an early happy hour on a patio. Shop. Catch the late happy hour on the patio. 14. Watch a sunset. To hell with the sunrise. Sleep in. 15. Take a nap under a shady oak tree. Wake up and have no idea where you are or where you came from. Your Personal Issue for all things “end of summer”. Words of wisdom from fellow RA’s who have been there and done that. End of Summer Countdown:15 Summer To Do’s For AugustBy Sara Hanna (South Hall RA)

It’s officially almost August, the month where everyone seems to realize in a collective stress-bomb – that summer is almost puttering to an end.

10. Paint your toenails hot pink with white polka dots.

11. Go to the zoo and eat churros or cotton candy and have staring contests with the gorillas.

12. Get caught at a stoplight in your car singing to a passionate and ball-busting song.

13. Go to an early happy hour on a patio. Shop. Catch the late happy hour on the patio.

14. Watch a sunset. To hell with the sunrise. Sleep in.

"Haven't escaped for a vacation at all yet?  You've only got a few weeks left! One of my favorite travel spots, similar to thousands of other people in the northeast, is the Cape.  Check out these fun filled and free events on the cape for a few days.  You deserve it!  And stop by Mayflower Beach if you can, too.  You will not be disappointed, as long as you can find a parking spot!"

It's no surprise that a healthful diet is bene!cial for your body physically, but more and more studies are revealing that it also bene!cial for you mentally. A nutritious and balanced diet gives your brain the energy and nutrients its needs to function at optimal capacity, and when you have a healthy brain your cognitive performance and mental stability improve as a result.

Increases Ability to ConcentrateEating a healthful breakfast can improve test scores because it provides you with a constant stream of energy that increases the brain's ability to concentrate. An ideal breakfast consists of whole grains, !ber and protein and is low in sugar.

Strengthens Neuron Signals within the BrainFruits like blueberries strengthen neuron signals in the brain, which leads to better memory and cognitive performance. Students with healthy brain function are able to retain and apply information much better and apply it to test taking.

Reduces Student AbsenteeismA healthful diet can counter illness, and absenteeism due to illness, because it gives students strong immune systems and more means for !ghting off diseases and sickness.

Eat Healthy to Improve Test Scoresvia livestrong.comBy Phuong Nguy (South Hall RA)

“When eating any meal, you need to make smart choices. No matter how good those chili cheese fries are, you really don’t need two heaping plates full. You need to eat a variety of foods in order to get all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs.”

Ten Tips You need to Survive CollegeBy Sara Hanna

1. If you haven't already registered, try not to schedule back to back classes.

 2. Begin the first day of class knowing

what's expected of you.

3. Establish a routine time to study for each class

4. Establish a place to study. place where you routinely do other things.

5. Do as much of your studying in the daytime as you can.

6. Schedule breaks. Take a ten minute break after every hour of study.

7. Make use of study resources on campus.

8. Find at least one or two students in each class to study with.

9. Study the hardest subject first.

10. Be good to yourself. Studying on four hours of sleep and an empty stomach or junk-food diet is a waste of time.

Summer to Fall StyleHow to dress during those in-between weeksBy Sara Hanna

Everywhere you look is fall fashion; the problem? Those early weeks of the month are usually just as hot and humid as August. Try these ten ideas to help you transition your wardrobe from summer to fall!

1. Wear stay-cool fabrics. For an autumn feel without sacrificing coolness and breathability, choose clothing in fabrics like tropical wool and silk knit.

2. Try deeper colors. Bridge the season change by wearing summer staples, like a shift dress or pair of cropped pants, in a fall shade, such as burgundy, chocolate, or forest green.

3. Go sleeveless. Wear a tailored tank or shell under a fall suit; it will keep you cooler than a long-sleeved blouse.

4. Warm up summer favorites. A lightweight cardigan worn over a sundress or a long-sleeved, boatneck tee worn with capris subtly make summer pieces more autumn-appropriate.

5. Shift into fall shoes. While knee-high boots may be too wintery for September, a pair of closed-toe mules or classic driving moccasins will look (and feel!) perfect.

6. Invest in an in-between blazer. One made of lightweight wool or crepe keeps you comfortable and gives you post-summer polish, and you can wear it well into winter.

7. Update your bag...Shelve your straw tote and choose a mid-season bag in light-colored leather for a smooth transition.

8. ...and your hair accessories. Put away the bright-colored, straw, and fabric barrettes, and stock up on leather, metal, or tortoise versions.

9. Go sockless. It's simple, but substantial. Trouser socks look heavy and keep legs too warm for September. Instead, wear peds (or no socks at all) with your closed-toe shoes.

10. Wear a longer skirt. One with a hem that hits mid-knee looks polished and ready for fall, even when it's made of a cool summer fabric like cotton or jersey.

“My best summer to fall piece, is the cutest H&M pink blazer that I can wear with jeans or dresses! Just pair them with sexy heels and I’m ready for a shopping day or a night out!”
