La Jetée, which inspired Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys, is a landmark of science-fiction filmmaking, a masterpiece told almost entirely in still frames. Set in a post-apocalyptic near-future in Paris, it tells the story of an un-named man whose vivid childhood recollections make him the perfect guinea pig for a post-nuclear war ex-periment in time travel.
