NewsFlash By Tom Ito

We’re off to a HOT start this year……Thank you

to all the staff and students for helping out this

week trying to keep everyone cool!

We were lucky that last Friday was not as hot as

this week! The rally was a huge success!

Mr. Miller shows the kids a thing or two about

balloon popping!

The theme was the Olympics, so two FHS

athletes were recognized for their athletic

accomplishments-one for making the All CIF

Softball team and the other for making CIF Finals

in track.

You will not be able to find a stronger academic

class than 2018! Way to go SENIORS.

We have a very good junior class too. The

leadership of the class of 2018 and 2019 has

made for the most positive student climate in my

four years at Fillmore High School. I tell

everyone that we have the closest thing to a

private school environment, but better because

we have a greater diversity. The diversity that we

have and private schools do not have leads to

more well-rounded and socially sensitive

students.

Class of 2020 has perfect vision as they have

their eyes on the prize.

The Class of 2021. Over 300 freshman at the

Welcome Back Rally. One of the largest 9th grade

classes in recent times.

Fillmore Friday Focus

Classroom Corner The first of 2 classrooms have been modified

with 5 ft. tall white board being installed all the

way around the room. Math teachers Kennedy

and MacMahon will implement 360 Math. 360

Math has all the students out of their seats

working on math problems at the same time.

With all the work being readily seen there can be

follow up by the peers and the teacher.

Corrections and assistance can be made for all 34

students at one time. 360 Math has been a very

successful way to teach math and we have high

hopes that it will be a game changer at FHS.

Our auto shop program will team up with the

DRAGG program. The students in both auto shop

classes will be rebuilding an old Camaro and

make it operable again. We will also take part in

all DRAAG events throughout the county. Auto

shop teacher Bill Guzman continues to take his

program to new levels.

A replica of the 2017 National VEX Robotics

Battle Arena is complete. The FHS Robotics Team

the Flashdrive has 2 robots that are 75% built.

With the first of

6 league

matches just 4

weeks away the

Flashdrive will

soon start to

practice and

make

adjustments to

their robots.

Activities By Darby Schieferle

On August 8, 2017 100 upperclassmen

showed up in the sweltering gym to be trained

to be leaders for Freshman Orientation. They

were trained by Derek Emory from Real

Inspirations. They were here bright and early

(7:15 am) to prepare for the incoming Freshmen.

We had over 280 Freshmen show up for the

Orientation. Lunch was provided by the high

school and prepared by our local Firemen,

Sheriffs and board members. One of the task for

the upperclassmen was to help them go through

registration, get their lockers and find the

Student Store. Another successful Freshman

Orientation in the books.

A sea of Fillmore blue washes over our newest

Flashes. Welcome Class of 2021.

The Fillmore Sheriff and Fire Departments and

some school board members served the

freshmen and orientation leaders a hot dog

lunch! This is

another

example of the

outstanding

community

support for FHS.

You do not get

this in larger

cities!

Athletes in Action The new track record board. It is posted by

where the students line up for PE. It has already

started to

inspire students

to try out for

track.

The new sportsmanship banner based on the CIF

Victory with Honor program.

It is a reminder that at Fillmore High School

sportsmanship is king.
