Filtration 2001 4-6 December, Chicago,
USA
This year the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics
Industry - INDA’s annual filtration conference and
exposition takes place in Chicago, USA, in early
December.
The four-day conference begins with a tutorial
session entitled Filtration101 - the Fundamentals
of Filtration, which will review the basics of
air/gas and liquid filtration, along with testing of
HVAC and compressed air systems. Wednesday
morning comprises a General Session, which will
include presentations on a new triboelectric blend
for air filtration, the implications of EPA’s PM 2.5
Standard and an analysis of the world filtration
industry. There will also be a Keynote speak by Dr
Morton Kamien. It is entitled ‘We’re Off to See
the Wizard!’ and will focus on how appearances
can deceive in relation to future economic and
manufacturing trends. ATest Method Forum will
follow, where details on ASHRAE 52.2 cabin air
testing standards and ISO’s Compressed Air test
methods will be available, along with information
on the on-going relationship between IS0 and

Fileder buys UK distribution centre
As part of its expansion
programme, cartridge filtration
distributor Fileder Filter Systems
has bought a ~2 million
(US$2.94 million) UK
distribution centre to enable it to
increase its stock holding by a
factor of four.
The complex of offices and
more than 15 000 m3 of
warehouse space is based in
Kent. In addition to increasing its
stock holding from ~1 million
(US$ 1.46 million) to approx-
imately &4 million ($5.85
million), Fileder says the extra
space will be used for add on
features including an enlarged
laboratory for customer process
fluids evaluation work and a
large reverse osmosis membrane

servicing department. Its
customer product training school
is also being moved to the new
site. Fileder says the most
important benefit will be the
ability to remain competitive by
accepting and stocking large,
cost effective, production runs.
Fileder primarily distributes
membrane and depth filter
cartridges made by Osmonics
and USF Plymouth in the USA
and Culligan International in the
UK.

medicine, transportation and appliances, as well as
a ‘Hot Topics’ session that will look at flue gas
cleaning with carbonaceous material; a comparison
of Bbreglass and synthetic air filter media; the
effectiveness of air filters in hospitals; and finally,
how to survive the minefield of intellectual
property in new product development.
The exposition takes place on 5 -6 December
and is said to be 35% larger than last year, with
2500 filtration professionals expected to attend.
INDA is offering a 20% discount on

UK valve distributor for Alfa Valvole
Earlier this year Italian valve
manufacturer AlfaValvole Srl
appointed Leengate Valves, a
division of Gas Instrument
Services Ltd, as the sole
distributor of its range of high-
specification ball valves in the
UK.
Alfa Valvole’s valves are made
from carbon steel, stainless
steel, as well as special alloys and
can operate in temperatures up
to 800 “C in a wide variety of
industrial fields. One of the
company’s newest valve type is
its multi-way ball valve, which is
available in three designs: wafer
(quarter turn); a fully IIangedT
version; and a fully flangedY
design. The wafer model comes
with either a L-port (3 way, 2
seat) or aT port (3 way, 3 seat).
The full flanged T and Y designs
are the 3 seat alternative to the
wafer design and have 120’ of
movement. Coupling the 3 seat
valves produces a 6 way unit that
can control fluids, gaseous and
process media flow effectively in
a variety of process systems
including filtration systems.
Alfa Valvole is exhibiting at
Filtedh Europa 2001 (Stand
B12/B13), see Preview Show
Guide for more information.
