ABSENCESAny student, age 7 to 18, must meet the required compulsory attendance law

8th grade students taking high school courses for credit (Reading 1, Home Economics 1, Agriscience 1) may not miss more than five (5) nonexempt excused absences, unexcused absences, suspensions per semester

Elementary students may not miss more than ten (10) days of nonexempt excused absences, unexcused absences, suspensions per semester

Students in grades K-8 who miss more than three (3) hours of instructional time during the school day will be considered absent for the entire day

Students participating in a school sponsored activity/field trip are considered present at school

Type 1 - Exempted, Excused* student allowed to make up the work* note from a Doctor* does NOT count toward the attendance

Type 2 - Non-Exempted, Excused* personal illness or serious illness, documented

by parent note * student allowed to make up work

Seat Time Recovery

Excuses for ALL absence must be presented in writing within two (2) days of the absence

Students in danger of failing due to excessive absences may be allowed to make up missed seat time held outside of the regular school day

-- FWJH has recovery time on select Saturday mornings (8:00a.m.-12:00p.m.)

Makeup sessions before the end of the current semester (highs school credit) or the end of the year for elementary/junior high students

Remember:Must have a note to make up work, if not

You receive a Zero.

The Student is responsible for making arrangements with his/her teacher within 3 days of his/her return to school after an absence.

Front Office

Students arriving after 7:55a.m. bell – MUST be signed in through the front office by a Parent or Guardian

Student Check Out Check-Out – only parent or guardian on the

emergency card to check out

Office staff WILLWILL ask for a Driver’s License – please understand that this is for Safety reasons

For Safety Reasons – No Check outs after 2:30

All transportation changes must be in writing – bus notes must have administrative approval

Students do not initiate process by calling home first

Must sign out/sign in the book

Not tolerated and is a suspendable offense

It is a form of aggression which occurs when a person (s) willfully subjects another person to an intentional, unwanted and unprovoked, hurtful, verbal and/or physical action (s) at any school site or school-sponsored event.

Parents with concerns about their child’s performance in class should speak with teacher before speaking to administration

Conferences can be set up through the Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Jackie Nettles or front office

6 - 8th Grade students may attend Fifth Ward Junior High dances provided they have met the requirements

9 weeks honor roll breakfast

Student of the Month celebrations

The FISH Philosophy will be the theme of our PBS Program.

6th-8th Grade students • 1 per nine weeks

4th & 5th Grade students• 1 per semester

All students must be in Good standing academically and meet the discipline requirements

Can’t leave until dance is over or a parent signs the student out

Water is acceptable in the classroom and/or building

Food and Sport Drinks are not allowed in school building

Energy drinks and coffee are not allowed on campus

No lunch Deliveries

Piercing only allowed on ear lobes

Radios, CD, Mp3, IPOD, Pagers, Cell Phones, Not Allowed

to the 4th/5th building) to Hwy. 21

Mrs. Hesson will have a Car line table in the gym

Parents will be provided paper and a plastic sleeve to write their child/children’s name(s)

The signage is to be placed in the left corner of the front windshield
