Tournament

The tournament consists of 32 teams broken down into different sections and a round robin tournament is played with eight groups of four teams playing a total of three games. Eventually two teams from each section are moved on to the knockout stage and the single elimination begins. Finally the tournament is narrowed down to one final champion leaving us with the recent 2010 champion Spain.

Money

In 2010 FIFA pocketed 3.2 Billion dollars from tourism and endorsements

The World Cup effected the economy of South Africa in a positive way. Tourism rose by 21% in 2010 leading up to and including the World Cup, there was a 25% increase in airport arrivals for South Africa and was just shy of bringing in $1.1 Billion into the South African economy. So looking at things from a money sense, over $1 Billion was pumped into the country alone due to a soccer tournament.
