This is quite a task as it involves pulling all local and relevant information together from that sent in via the Gmail account. Next, the articles need laying out to fit in the confines of the Newsletter Space. Once done, it gets sent electronically to Hinkley B Power Station where it is printed up, free of charge. The 150 News Letters are then collected from Hinkley B, bundled up into specific piles for the local deliveries. These are left in the church for the volunteers to collect and then put them through your doors. So the next time you pick up a News Letter, spare a bit of time to read it, after all, others have put a great deal of time into getting it through to your post box! Also, an enormous amount of appreciation goes to Hannah Ovett who has been doing the editor role for many years. She has it set up now so that no matter who is the editor, the system runs the same. Unfortunately, Hannah, along with husband Chris and son Abraham, are moving. We hope they will all keep in touch and wish them much happiness in their new family home. GREAT NEWS! We have been awarded the £69,000 grant to make improvements to the hall kitchen, Meaker room and toilets. Thanks go to Robin Kinahan, Paul Crosland and David Scott for the work put into the application. We hope the project will start 22nd October....but this is only provisional at present. There is now much work and logistics to put in place so that the project causes minimal disruption. The hall will still be usable, the toilets most of the time, but the kitchen will not be available for a few weeks. Thanks to all those who sent in their letters of support. Updates will be provided in the next few News Letters. Thanks also goes to David Scott who has lent the hall a wheelchair to loan out. It is secured in the Disabled Toilet area in the hall. It can be loaned to anyone for a returnable deposit of £25 and a donation to the hall on return. If you would like to make use of it please contact a committee member or me (details below). Thanks to all who supported the Jumble Sale. We made over £500! The last time we made that amount was 2014. from our Village Agent, Izzy Sylvester

When September comes, the summer fetes end and the regular groups resume. These are a great way to meet people and to share experiences and thoughts. They can be extremely uplifting and can give a great sense of purpose. Most will love extra volunteer support if you have time to give. Talking Cafes are often held on a Monday to provide much needed company after a long weekend. The Beach Hotel in Minehead has a café every Monday morning from ten o’clock till one and in Bridgwater Arts Centre every Thursday. The Talking café in Williton is the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 10.30-12.30. You are sure of a warm welcome where you can come and chat to like- minded people and find support and advice from the agencies who come each week. Another great support is the Active Living groups that run for several hours twice a week. They often provide a subsidised healthy lunch so you can skip the washing up every so often! Village coffee mornings are wonderful –a great way to meet up with the community and chat about local issues. If you are new to the village or are finding it difficult to get the confidence to attend a coffee morning please give me a ring. I can come along with you or arrange for one of your neighbours to take you for the first time! There are also gentle exercise groups. You can work on your balance if you are vulnerable to falling, try seated yoga and Tai Chi to stretch muscles and feel peace, seated bowls for fun and gentle exercise and health walks to raise spirits through gentle exercise and conversation. There are also a network of support groups for those who work as unpaid carers. Here you will find speakers, people who have experience of your needs and a chance for a chuckle. Perhaps if you drive to a social group, you could consider if there is anyone in your area who can’t walk there and give them a lift. If you struggle to get out of the house, you could receive a weekly telephone call from Age Uk or Silver Line or a visit from the Royal Volunteer Library Service To find out what is available near you, try your parish magazine, village hall notice boards, www.somersetcarers.org and click on what’s on in your area, try your local village website or give me a call and I can direct you.

Not sure who to turn to? Village Agents are a charity that work with individuals and social groups to give confidential support and advice. We can enable people to be more independent in their home, manage personal finances, care for family members and advise on just about anything! Please phone me Izzy Silvester your village agent on 07931 018045, leave me your name and number and I will ring you back. Or e mail me on [email protected] .I do only work part-time so it may take a day or two for me to return your call. Thank you

From the Village Cook’s Kitchen... Lemon chicken salad. Serves 4 Ingredients: Mixed green salad ( little gem / Lollo Biondo / Frisee –

or whatever you have in the garden) 4 skinless chicken breasts, or boneless thighs 5 rashers of rind less bacon –( I prefer smoked but either would do. Or you could use ready chopped panchetta) 1 tablespoon olive oil Juice of 1 lemon 1 tablespoon chopped fresh tarragon Salt and pepper French dressing

Method: Prepare the green salad Slice the chicken breasts into strips and chop the bacon into small pieces Heat the oil in a frying pan ( or saucepan) add the chicken and bacon and cook for 4 5 minutes until lightly browned. Add the lemon juice and tarragon. Season to taste and then cook for a further 4 or 5 minutes until the chicken is tender. Toss the green salad with the French dressing and add the chicken and bacon and serve immediately.

A note from Jo Davies of Music on the Quantocks: ....’ news about the concert taking place at Stogursey church on Sunday 16 September, which is the climax of Stogursey Arts Festival. The concert is by the Scandinavian singing stars Trio Mediaeval, who sang the soundtrack on Michael Caine’s latest hit Hollywood film. They are flying to London to give a concert for the BBC and during their 48 hour stay in the UK their only other performance will be at Stogursey! We would like as many local residents as possible to be in the audience. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience live world-class vocal music on our doorsteps. We have already received more than 600 ticket applications, only ten are from residents of Fiddington, Stogursey and Stowey. The other applications are all from music fans living much further away in Somerset, the South West ... and beyond! It would be a real shame to see St Andrew's church packed to the rafters on 16 September, but with no room for local people. So, to prevent that from happening, we will now sell tickets only to residents of Stogursey and neighbouring villages.’ Tickets can be booked by emailing [email protected] or phoning 01823 451162.

And to accompany this dish our Master of Wine recommends: Any Chardonnay wine will go with this, but a Sauvignon might be more interesting. Both the Sainsbury Taste the Difference Touraine Sauvignon and Coolwater Bay Sauvignon from NZ are pretty decent. A light red will also go well. I'd suggest the Chinon, Domaine de Colombier (again from Sainsbury). It has an attractive light raspberry flavour - not bad slightly chilled.

A message from Andrea Crosland– THANK YOU to
