ANNOUNCEMENTS and GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Judy briefly discussed an Alzheimer’s Study named A4 that she & Ben have volunteered to participate in. The

focus of the study is evaluation of a drug that was proven to remove amyloid from patient’s brains. Previous

studies using the drug involved patients who were already diagnosed with Alzheimer ’s disease. While the

drug removed amyloid from their brains, it did not improve their memory ability. The A4 study will focus on

people whose families have a history of Alzheimer’s disease and/ or people who may have recently shown

signs that are associated with Alzheimer’s and/or who are in the proper age group but have shown no signs of

the disease. They hope to show that the drug can be used to prevent build up of amyloid in the patient’s brains

and hopefully act as a deterrent to any progression of Alzheimer ’s disease. The study lasts approximately 30

months and requires monthly visits to the VA Puget Sound VA Hospital or Harborview Hospital or the U of W

Medical center in Seattle. Any one who is interested in being a participant in the A4 study should call James

O’Connell at 206-277-3740 and tell him that they are interested.

ADJOURN

At 5:30 pm, Mary made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Eric Ward seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Respectfully submitted,
