Debbie and Bill Evans hosted a fabulous weekend for us at Fidalgo Bay. We always have our “bowling outing” there in November, but this year we did a whole lot more than bowl. There was golf, a turkey dinner with all the fixings and a large screen movie with popcorn. It started Thursday afternoon with a soggy happy hour and dinner on our own. Then Friday morning 4 couples took off to play golf: Doug & Diane Mumaw, Erik & Jane Ward, Tom & Cheryl Rodewald plus Debbie & Bill Evans. The guys played together as did the women. After Happy Hour we departed for the seafood buffet at the casino. Unfortunately because we had such a large group we were not able to get in within a reasonable amount of time. The group split up with some couples going to other places to eat. Saturday morning we had breakfast together at the San Juan Lanes. Everyone who wanted to bowl put their name in a hat. Debbie & Bill drew the names to form 4 teams of 3 people each. We played 2 full games and had a lot of fun in spite of the gutter balls that seemed to outnumber the strikes and spares. Our non bowling colleagues cheered and jeered as we all tried our best to throw strikes. Saturday afternoon and evening we had the clubhouse to ourselves. President Judy Simmons scheduled a Board Meeting for 2:30 that afternoon. Then at 4:00 everyone else joined us for Happy hour and our chapter meeting. Debbie & Bill handed out both golfing awards for low scores and bowling awards to the team with the highest score. Around 5 Debbie and Bill started setting up the focal point of our pot luck dinner: a huge turkey with all the fixings! It was a fabulous feast. After dinner Bill and some helpers set up his portable big screen. The movie that they brought for us was Tin Cup. A show many of us had seen years ago but we agreed that we thoroughly enjoyed watching it again

ANNOUNCEMENTS and GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Judy briefly discussed an Alzheimer’s Study named A4 that she & Ben have volunteered to participate in. The
focus of the study is evaluation of a drug that was proven to remove amyloid from patient’s brains. Previous
studies using the drug involved patients who were already diagnosed with Alzheimer ’s disease. While the
drug removed amyloid from their brains, it did not improve their memory ability. The A4 study will focus on
people whose families have a history of Alzheimer’s disease and/ or people who may have recently shown
signs that are associated with Alzheimer’s and/or who are in the proper age group but have shown no signs of
the disease. They hope to show that the drug can be used to prevent build up of amyloid in the patient’s brains
and hopefully act as a deterrent to any progression of Alzheimer ’s disease. The study lasts approximately 30
months and requires monthly visits to the VA Puget Sound VA Hospital or Harborview Hospital or the U of W
Medical center in Seattle. Any one who is interested in being a participant in the A4 study should call James
O’Connell at 206-277-3740 and tell him that they are interested.
ADJOURN
At 5:30 pm, Mary made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Eric Ward seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Respectfully submitted,
