Welcome to the fifth edition of the Festival of Imagineers, Coventry’s annual festival that lies at the intersection of art, design and engineering.
Our 2018 programme focuses on the theme of connections. Over the festival week, an amazing group of local, national and international artists will work with local businesses, engineers and communities to explore what connects rather than divides people. We also invite you to play the streets: come and play in public spaces with free family workshops, performances, talks and exhibitions.
Events are mostly FREE with no need to book, unless indicated otherwise.
Full event details can be found online at www.festivalofimagineers.co.uk

CARMEN FUNEBREAs Imagineer celebrate twenty years of working with inspirational outdoor arts company Teatr Biuro Podrozy and the UK marks the centenary of World War One, Carmen Funebre returns to Coventry. This is Teatr Biuro Podrozy’s most iconic performance, which has toured to almost 50 countries worldwide, and received the Fringe First and Critics’ Award at the Edinburgh Festival.
Based on the company’s research with refugees from the former Yugoslavia during the brutal Bosnian conflict in the 1990s as well as other outbreaks of nationalism and intolerance, Carmen Funebre is a visceral and brutal exposé of the horrors of war.

CELEBRATING PROCESSIONS June 10th 2018 saw the culmination of Artichoke’s wonderful mass participation artwork Processions, which celebrated one hundred years of votes for women. Thousands of women took to the streets of London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh with hand-made banners to mark the achievements of the women’s suffrage movement. This display of banners made in the West Midlands includes Imagineer’s banner, made through its newly established Art Café programme in Moathouse and Hagard Community Centres, with communities who worked alongside textile artists Julia O’Connell and Julie Joannides.
PROCESSIONS was commissioned by 14-18 NOW and produced by Artichoke.

WHEEL WAYSAs Coventry moves towards being City of Culture in 2021, a range of organisations are working together to regenerate Coventry’s canal corridor and establish a cycle trail linking Sutton Stop in Longford with George Eliot’s house in Foleshill, Imagineer’s Daimler Powerhouse, the Canal Basin, FARGO and the developing Charterhouse Heritage Park.
This exhibition charts the developing ideas for the trail and also launches Imagineer’s Wheel Ways project, which will include the creation of a sonic bike opera for Coventry; kinetic sculptures inspired and made by children and the development of the Buzz Bike, which enables people to experience music through vibration.
