Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers’ Clubs Newsletter-Spring 2019
How can this year be coming to a close? It seems like yesterday I was
beginning to plan for my year as president! It has been such a privilege and
honor to serve as your Federation President. The best part of this position has
been the opportunity to meet so many of you and learn about all of the creative
and fun things you’re doing in your local clubs to support the local Aggie
community. I’ve created so many memories and made so many friends, all of
which will last forever.
The Federation exists to provide for our Aggies and to work with the
University to graduate students that are ready to face the world. We are there
for all of our Aggie families, from the moment their student receives their
acceptance letter to graduation and beyond - From Howdy To Here!
I dedicated my year to the Aggie Network and their ability to help the
Federation “connect the dots.” Because of their collaborative and innovative
ideas, we’ve seen the Federation become more efficient and effective which
allows us to fulfill our mission. And this year was no different. The Aggie
Network is the real deal!
Aggie Mom Boutique 2019 is right around the corner. It will be held
on April 12 and 13 during Family Weekend. Once again we will be hosting
this shopping extravaganza of “all things Aggie” on the second floor of the
MSC in three ballrooms and in the hallways that connect them. There will also
be many raffle opportunities - just another way that clubs raise funds to
support their work. Hours will be: Friday, April 12 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
and Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
I invite you to join us for the Spring Federation Business Meeting and
Election of the 2019-2020 Officers and Directory Dedication by President-
Elect Cathleen Inman on Friday, April 12th at 5:30 PM in Rudder 601. On
Saturday, April 13th, the Spring Federation General Meeting and Installation of
Officers will also be held in the same room. Registration is from 8:00 – 8:30
AM followed by the meeting and installation starting at 8:30 AM.

the year, so please plan to join us.

“HOWDY TO HERE”…Hoping with this year’s theme your clubs are welcoming members,
adopting Moms, and building memories and life-long friendships. I want to encourage you to
continue your membership drive throughout the year and have listed few free promotional
opportunities.
Remember, you can request a listing of students in your area at
https://aggiemoms.org/eislistprogram/ plus lists can be pulled more than once during the year.
NOW is the perfect opportunity to request your listing because the requests are taken on a first
come, first serve basis!
If your activities are not on the Aggie Mom Events Calendar, you are missing out on a
GREAT place for new Aggie Moms to find your local clubs events and Current Members to see
what is going on in your area. https://www.aggienetwork.com/aggie-moms-howdy-party. The
website was set up by The Association of Former Students and they will delete activities as they
are completed. All you need to do is add your meetings, Howdy parties, fundraisers and other
socials. If you haven’t signed up for your club, the directions are as follows:
https://www.aggienetwork.com/media/guides/club%20resources/tx.ag.aggiemomseventshowt
o.pdf OR you can follow directions on the video https://youtu.be/psMOqdY-z1U
The Aggie Moms Events Calendar and map will be promoted by postcard mailed to every
student’s home address who accepts their offer to attend Texas A&M University. These
postcards are paid for by the Federation to support all the clubs. Be sure to have all scheduled
events for the year up and ready before you break for the summer. Postcards will go out in
May, so we expect Moms to be checking out the site this summer.
The Aggie Mom video, interest forms and the map of clubs will be promoted at all
Summer NSC (New Student Conferences), Home Football Game Tailgates, January NSC and
Boutique. Interest forms will be forwarded as they are received. Be sure you have your
procedure in place to contact those interested Moms throughout the year. It is
best to contact the Moms ASAP!
Building your membership is a year-round opportunity and if you have any questions, please
contact [email protected].

Howdy Aggie Moms!
I have had the time of my life this year as the 2nd Vice President of Programs for the
Federation of Aggie Mothers’ Clubs. I worked closely with President Nolan to ensure her
meetings, dinners, and Development events all had incredible speakers. Working with Aggies
like Dave South, Dr. Ben Welch, Melanie Shankle, Amy Sharp, Chancellor Sharp, President
Young, General Welsh, Porter Garner, Vice President Pugh and so many more have left me
wanting to pinch myself all year long!
I graduated from Texas A&M in 1989 and with raising a family, work, church and community
involvement, I did not stay as connected with Texas A&M University as I might have hoped.
Sure, we came for games and tailgates, but I did not look for ways to continue SERVING my
beloved Texas A&M.
When my oldest daughter got accepted to Texas A&M, I started looking into community
organizations that would prepare me to send her off to college and fill the huge hole that I knew
she would leave in my heart. I could not join my local Coppell Aggie Moms’ Club fast enough.
As a part of my local Club, I got involved and learned about The Federation of Aggie Mothers’
Clubs. Once I got my last child off to college, I could not get involved in The Federation of
Aggie Mothers’ Clubs fast enough! Getting involved with the Board last year and taking on the
role of 2nd VP, was such an opportunity. I am forever grateful for this chance to serve every
student on campus, as well as the AMAZING MOMS that raised them!
I know Club Members from across the state and nation are reading this and my most sincere
encouragement to you is to get involved in your local Club! Moms, we need each other!!! Get
your Clubs more involved in the Federation! Attend these well-planned events and see if you
are not impressed by all the incredible things Texas A&M is doing.
Each speaker this year blessed me beyond measure. I have been so delighted to see the
opportunities that Texas A&M is pouring into our students. Staff and Administrators care! Do
not believe everything you read on Facebook. Hear for yourself the passion that these TAMU
leaders have for your students. They absolutely love getting to meet Moms, so do not miss the
upcoming Spring Meeting.
We have been fortunate enough to book Ms. Amy B. Smith as our spring meeting speaker.
Ms. Smith is the Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for
Texas A&M University and serves on President Young’s President’s Cabinet. (See her bio.)
Family Weekend is bulging with activities but, please stop by for a cup of coffee. Get a photo
with Miss Reveille. Wake up with the Yell Leaders! Enjoy the glorious sounds of The Singing
Cadets. Every bit of the morning will inspire you.
Don’t forget that we are moving to a new location this year. We will be in 601 Rudder
Tower. See you there on April 13 at 8:00 am.
Thanks and Gig ‘Em!

District Meetings Across Miles and Miles of Texas! Howdy Aggie Moms! I have truly enjoyed driving around the great State of Texas meeting with each of the clubs to host the district meetings. To date I driven to 10 cities to meet some of the most wonderful Aggie Moms! As I am writing this I have two more meetings this week and following Spring Break, I have on the schedule to travel to 5 other cities as well as Skype meetings for those clubs that are out of state or not in a few hour’s drive. It has been awesome experience to meet each of you to share ideas and collaborate on how to make your club even more successful. It has been an honor to serve this year as 6th VP Districts and I thank you for the very warm welcome that I have received when I was there to visit. I hope to see all of you again at the Federation meetings/events so I can say howdy and give you a big Aggie Mom hug!

Howdy! I am Alice Artman, 2018-2019 Recording Secretary.
My year serving as Recording Secretary is coming to a close quickly. It has been a fun
year working on the Federation Board. On January 12th, I attended my home District 6
club meeting held in League City. On January 13th, I traveled to Beaumont and was able
to attend the District 7 meeting of whom I serve as their District Liaison. Kristi King, 6th
VP Districts did an excellent job of presenting important information to those in
attendance in regards to Aggie Moms’ Clubs to share with their respective home clubs. I
wasn’t able to attend Aggie Mom Camp this year, but I did attend the Texas A&M Leadership Council
meeting held on Saturday, February 23rd at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr Alumni Center. The Leadership
Council is the governing body of The Association of Former Students and the representative body of our
worldwide Aggie Network. I was impressed with the financial and volunteer work contributions from many
donors and it was a treat to hear a talk from Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. Overall, it was an exciting Spring
semester and I look forward to Boutique and Family Weekend in April. I hope to see you all there! My
email address is [email protected]

Pearls of Wisdom from the Parliamentarian Howdy Presidents and Club Members!
With Boutique and Spring meetings approaching, I have a few Thank You’s and reminders.
Thank you to those clubs who have already sent in their Bylaws, Standing Rules, AND Scholarship
Selection Guidelines and Applications in digital format! (Between last year and this year, we’ve only
received about 40% of the club Bylaws and Standing Rules and fewer Scholarship documents.) To all
others, please send a digital copy of current Club Bylaws & Standing Rules for Your club AND
Scholarship Selection Guidelines and Application ASAP. I can then print the hard copies for the Federation
maintained files. You may send them to [email protected]. If you cannot locate a copy, I will scan the
hard copy paper file and email at your request.
We request this information as a resource bank for clubs from year to year AND to verify that club
Governing Documents meet 501(c)3 requirements and follow the umbrella organization’s (Federation)
format .
The “Bylaws Template” for format and verbiage needed in your bylaws can be found on the
aggiemoms.org website under Resources for Clubs.
We will be voting on the slate of officers for 2019-2020 at the Spring Meeting. Please remember:
Only designated voting delegates will be eligible to vote
Each club has at least 3 Delegates (the Club President, or designee, and two active-paid members) to represent
their first 100 members. For those clubs with more than 100 members, the club receives 1 additional delegate
for every 50 members. The List of Voting Delegate Numbers for the year, as well as the Delegate
Submission Form are posted on the website under Federation Documents for your convenience.
Confirm the number of delegates for your club,
Submit delegate names to Kim Kovar at [email protected]. By April 8, 2019. As we
did with past meetings, there will be designated seating for the voting delegates. All other members and guests
will be asked to sit in the unmarked sections of the room.
Enjoy Family Weekend, Love on your Aggies and Shop Boutique!
A Big Texas Thank You to Federation President Nolan and the Board for the opportunity to work with them and all

Messina Hof has graciously offered us the
opportunity to provide our clubs the chance to order
Aggie Mom labeled wines. There are similar choices
as in the January collection with the addition of a
sparkling wine just in time for all of your
Spring and Summer celebrations. Think graduations,
engagements or maybe even a wedding!
Please use the attached order form to make your selections and return the
order directly to Messina Hof by the March 30, 2019. The wine will be
available for pick up during Family Weekend at the offices of the Barracks
Townhomes.
Wine pick up details:
The Barracks Townhomes Model Home: Saturday 4/13 4:00-7:00 pm
514 Deacon Drive West Sunday 4/14 12:00-2:00 pm
College Station, TX
77845
Wine not picked up during these times will be returned to Messina Hof and the
buyer will be responsible for shipping.
If your club would like to place a bulk order with one order form and one form of
payment, you will be eligible to earn complimentary bottles of wine. Contact
Peggy Nolan or Janet Davis for more details. Please share this information with
ALL of your club members ASAP so that they can participate in this opportunity.
The deadline to order is March 30, 2019.

Howdy, Aggie Moms!
Phishing scams are not only becoming more common, but more sophisticated making it difficult to determine if they are real. Assume they are not. Anti-spam filters are one great tool for eliminating the barrage of unwanted email messages, but don’t stop there. These scams are becoming increasingly more sophisticated
Here are some tips to help avoid falling prey to them:
1. Use common sense
Your first line of defense is to think through the request. Is your relative/friend going to send an email from a foreign country,
asking you to “wire” thousands of dollars? Probably not. Don’t be fooled by urgency – does your Club President need an
emergency gift card? Unlikely. If you have a process for expense approvals, follow it. If not, put one in place. To allow for
‘emergencies’, use a code word or phrase. Just don’t panic and send money blindly.
2. Check the sender’s information
The most common red flag is a bizarre return email address. Sure, the “from” line might have a reputable name, but if you
look at the actual address (as displayed or you may need to hover over it), it’s almost always something sketchy.
3. Check any hyperlink before you click on it
Check any hyperlinks by hovering your mouse over the underlined part to reveal the address a click will take you to. If it’s
authentic, it should be preceded by “https,” the “s” standing for secure. Otherwise, it could be a fraudulent website, and
clicking on the link could result in giving access to your personal information or have malware installed on your personal
computer. If there are attachments - Just. Don’t. Click!
4. Look for errors
Most of the scams have misspellings or incorrect grammar. If the language seems stilted or words are missing, it could be
coming from an international imposter.
5. Never give personal information
Your bank isn’t going to email you and tell you there’s been an error and you need to log in to fix it. They’re just not.
Additionally, all the information floating around on the Internet can be used against you. Hackers can harvest personal data
off various social media make matches.
6. Pick up the phone and call
Yes - a good, old-fashioned phone call to the person or institution that supposedly sent the email should clear things up. Be
sure to call the company’s known customer service number (not the one in the email, which could be fraudulent, right?).
A good practice is to use standardized emails for your Club. If your Club has a website hosted by the Association of
Former Students, you already have an AggieNetwork.com email for the Club. Now you can also set up
AggieNetwork.com email accounts for your Club officers. To request AggieNetwork.com emails for your Club, just fill
out and submit the Email Request Template found on the Federation’s Club Resources page to me at

WHOOP! Now that’s an Aggie Brag!
Congratulations to the latest members of the
Texas A&M Legacy Society, the Laredo Aggie
Moms Club. The Legacy Society recognizes
individuals, corporations, and organizations
whose cumulative, current giving totals
$100,000 or more. Names of the individuals
and groups are engraved on the walls of the Jon
L. Hagler building. To date thirty-four of the
clubs in the Federation plus the Federation have
made donations over $100,000 to qualify.
However, several groups neglected to return the
authorization form to the Foundation. Without
authorization, the names are not included in
the honor roll engraved on the walls in Legacy
Hall at the Jon L. Hagler Center.
For information about the Legacy Society, please contact
Leslie Ruffino at [email protected]

PARENT SOCIALS
New Student Conferences for the 2018-2019 year continued and were held in
January at both the College Station and Galveston Campuses. This was our
spring semester opportunity to meet the families of incoming and/or transfer
students to the campuses and introduce the Aggie Mom’s organization to them,
tell them which Aggie Mom’s clubs are in their area and recruit members to local
clubs. Just like during the summer, Clubs who had moms in their area were sent
completed interest forms that were received during these conferences. Please
make sure your Membership representative follows up and contacts these
moms. It is hard to believe that the 2019-2020 school year (and incoming Class
of 2023) is just around the corner! New Student Conferences in College Station
start May 29th and those on the Galveston campus will begin June 10th. Please
visit each campus’ NSC website for their complete NSC schedule as your club
gets ready for a new recruiting. This will be helpful if you would like to include
the dates and information in any of your HOWDY Party invites or materials.
