Paintsmart has welcomed well known Christchurch based importer & distributor, RJP Panel & Paint Supplies to the Paintsmart Group.

“This gives the group a very strong network throughout the country” says Jason Barry, facilitator of Paintsmart Group. RJP also has branches in Nelson and Dunedin and recently purchased the business of Linkup Paints in Christchurch. RJP’s Managing Director, Bill O’Brien commented “we are excited to join the Paintsmart Group and expect that this will open up new markets for many of our imported products and equally offer some exciting new products to our customers”.

RJP (formerly R.J. Paterson Ltd) was established over 30 years ago and is a leading supplier to the South Island collision repair market.

O’Brien also commented “we understand how tough the market is for our customers and it is very important that we continue to deliver the most cost-effective product solutions. One way to do this is to find the best international suppliers and import their products directly to the market.

I recently visited the Automecannika show in Frankfurt and SEMA in Las Vegas and believe as a group, Paintsmart has a very strong stable of products for our industry.”

O’Brien’s background is in the Corporate sector and he began life as a paint chemist so with RJP it has come full circle. He negotiated the purchase of RJP in 2004 so is coming up to 15 years in the industry. The future direction for the business will look to diversify into related markets such as industrial coatings and wood coatings.

General Manager, Derek Piebenga has been involved in every aspect of the collision repair industry. Beginning as an apprentice panel beater in Christchurch. Later moved into the insurance side of the industry in Auckland and then back to Christchurch to buy a repair business. He then setup a second shop and eventually sold both and moved to Sydney and back into vehicle insurance. He then came back to Christchurch as GM of RJP in 2015. He is passionate about the industry and working with his customers.

O’brien commented, “We are very excited to work with Paintsmart Group and can’t wait to see what the future holds”.
