LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER … For those who are ill, and those in need of our prayers …

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF BECOMING A PRIEST? Visit: www.lavocations.org

Dear Parishioners, We celebrate today the Solemnity of the Presentation of the Lord and we also bless the candles that will be used in our Church throughout

the year. Can you believe it? It is 40 days today since Christmas! Because of the importance of the Feast, we interrupt our study of St. Matthew’s Gospel to hear the beautiful description of how the Lord was presented by Mary and Joseph in the Temple of Jerusalem and their encounter with Simeon and Anna. The words of the Gospel convey how both Simeon and Anna found great consolation in Jesus even as a Child! May we too find consolation in Jesus, especially in the power of His teachings. Today I want to highlight the Ministry of Hospitality—our Ushers. One of our leaders, Pat Hendon, will be stepping down from this Ministry. Thank you so much, Pat, for your years of service. I am please to tell you that Evelio Leon will continue as the Coordinator of Ushers. We will work together to invite new members to join this important welcoming ministry. Maybe the Lord is tapping you in the shoulder??? Have a wonderful week. Devotedly, Father Gabe

Reflection on Today’s Readings:

FOCUS: In Christ our suffering takes on deeper meaning. When Simeon recognizes the Child Jesus as the Savior, he notes that He will save us through a suffering that will pierce His mother’s heart. That suffering of the Son of God reveals that, in our daily sufferings, we can find hope in the Savior who knows what our pain feels like and can give it deeper meaning.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading is from Malachi who tells of the coming Savior. The Letter of the Hebrews relates that Jesus became one of us so that He could redeem us; so that, being one of us, His suffering could transform our own. Luke provides the scene of the presentation of the Child Jesus, where Simeon recognizes the Savior.

Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Why “gut feelings” have value when preventing child abuse - Once a caregiver is selected, the family should be alert to any

changes in the child's behavior. A child, who suddenly becomes withdrawn, clingy, or reluctant to be with their caregiver, may be experiencing abuse. Talk with your children and encourage them to be open about their feelings. Keep in mind the abuse may be verbal, physical, or involve neglect. Fact of Life: "Gimme Shelter": Your Right to Choose This Movie

(Excerpts from Article from LifeNews.com) What happens when a teenager who came into the world as an unplanned teenage pregnancy ends up with an unplanned pregnancy of her own? This is the plot of "Gimme Shelter," a new movie. It's amazing that this film has been made, and more amazing that it's studded with stars. Not only Vanessa Hudgens, but Rosario Dawson , Brendan Fraser, and James Earl Jones play major roles. Inspired by the real-life story of Kathy DiFiore, the founder of several Sources Shelters, writer and director Ronald Krauss wrote his original screenplay while spending a year in a shelter for pregnant teens, and based it on the lives of several of the shelter mothers. Brendan Fraser asked to be in the movie after reading the script, and spent time in the shelters with the mothers and babies. On the last day of shooting, he quietly told Kathy that he was donating his salary to the shelter.
