February 23, 2021 MOTHER SETON SCHOOL From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Families, I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well. Amidst the bustle and chaos of the world and our lives, Lent offers us the opportunity to grow and deepen our relationship with God. It is a time to reflect and focus on the life and death of Jesus Christ, and to seek repentance as we prepare to celebrate His resurrection. Our school community began our Lenten journey last week by virtually celebrating Mass, and by receiving ashes and the Eucharist. Ash Wednesday is especially significant to our community as this was the day that our Patron Saint and Foundress was accepted into the Catholic Church. Mother Seton’s conversion was a great sacrifice, as she was disowned by her Protestant family and shunned by her social circle. But in that sacrifice, she found joy, proclaiming upon making her Confession and receiving the Eucharist for the first time, “At last…at last, GOD IS MINE AND I AM HIS! Now, let all go its round — I Have Received Him!” As we continue on our Lenten journey, let us also find joy in the conversion of our hearts through reflection, penitence, and sacrifice. I encourage you to pray this prayer at home with your family during this Season of Lent: Merciful God, Through your prophet, Joel, you reminded us of the true meaning of penitence. As the holy Season of Lent begins, turn my heart towards you. Let the mark of ashes remind me throughout the season of this call to conversion. May my repentance be truthful and sincere. May my prayer be open to your guidance and grace. May my almsgiving be generous and without strings or restrictions. In the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen. Below is a story about Elizabeth Ann Seton written by fourth grade student, Kathleen Robinson: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Elizabeth had a student, they disagreed a lot. They eventually became close friends. This student went to France to learn. She gave Mother Seton a book before she left. Soon after, the student died in France. When Mother Seton went on to get canonized, she needed her baptism records. The church where her baptism had been burned in a fire. But a little while before she died, Mother Seton wrote her baptism in the book the student had given her. When one of the Sisters remembered that Mother Seton wrote her baptism in the book, they were able to use the book and personal records to give proof to her baptism. In the end, with the help from her student, Mother Seton was able to get canonized. Thank you, Kathleen for writing and sharing this story! MOTHER SETON SCHOOL

From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Families, I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well. I encourage you to pray this prayer at home with your family during this Season of Lent:

Merciful God, Through your prophet, Joel, you reminded us of the true meaning of penitence.

Amen. Below is a story about Elizabeth Ann Seton written by fourth grade student, Kathleen Robinson:

St.

When one of the Sisters remembered that Mother Seton wrote her baptism in the book,

they were able to use the book and personal records to give proof to her baptism. In the end, with the help from her student, Mother Seton was able to get canonized.
