Message from Mrs. Horvath
Welcome to February, the month when kind-ness and being a good friend are emphasized even more than they normally are! On this note, I’d like to intro-duce myself and share that I have thoroughly enjoyed the warm wel-come I have received at River Heights and the kindness and helpful-ness shown by the staff, students and parents. My name is Kelly Horvath and I am a re-tired principal, filling in on a temporary basis until Mr Sheik’s return. I understand that I am the second supply prin-
cipal and this change can be difficult for a school community; how-ever, we have worked hard to make the transi-tions as smooth as pos-sible for everyone. Rest assured, as parents, that throughout this time the staff at River Heights has continued to focus on the learning program for your children, along with their safety and well-being. As I visit classrooms and talk with students, I am consistently impressed with the growing skills related to the school goal of developing flexibility with numbers and solv-ing multi step problems. Additionally, I have thor-
oughly enjoyed listening to so many of your chil-dren read and having them share their work with me. I could tell right away that a special com-munity of learning has been established and my goal while I am here is to support our staff, stu-dents, and families in whatever capacity I am able.

Requesting Your Support– Students with Health Concerns.
As a reminder, we request that
all families support a nut-aware and safe environ-ment at River Heights School. We do have students in our school who have severe pea-nut/nut allergies. Given that all students use our computer lab, gym equipment and library, we are asking families in our school community to be diligent in choosing lunches and snacks which are completely nut free. Even those which “may contain traces of nuts” can cause a
serious and life-threatening physical reaction. At River Heights we are currently up-dating all information regarding the health concerns of our students. It is especially im-portant for us to identify signifi-cant health concerns (e.g. ana-phylaxis) that may involve an emergency situation arising at school. Individual Plan of Care are accessible through the por-tal for those students requiring them. To assist us keeping this information current, please return the completed form as
soon as possible. Feel free to contact the school if you are new to River Heights or if your child has been recently diag-nosed with a health concern that requires an Individual Plan of Care. Thank you for your cooperation with this most
serious matter.
